  • The cab of a Transit is NICE. There are a couple of trim levels and the higher one has lots of bells & whistles for driving comfort and convenience. It looks like it belongs in a 21st century vehicle instead of 1990s. IMHO it's about time.

I think the Transit will be a huge boost to the class B market. The extended body and high roof, straight from the factory, instantly provide head room and body length with no mods necessary for the upfitter. Also a great option for the DIY crowd, especially as used ones become available.
  • Don't look for many updates on the remaining E series vans in production as there will be fewer vehicles to defray the non recurring costs (design, tooling, etc).
  • T350 will only replace the under 11,500 E350s.

11,500+ GVWR E350/E450s are still available, and the rear-tank SRW E350 cutaway is still available.

Really, the only E350 cutaway that isn't available anymore is the 10,500 GVWR. The T350 should be able to fill that weight class in just fine.
  • I believe you cannot buy a new 2015 E150, E250, or an E350 van any longer, but like is said by others, the cut-away and stripped chassis will be around for 4 or more years. It seems the end is near for the biggest of class C's unless you jump into a Super-C. I don't know Chevy's plans, but their 4500 cut-away chassis never did handle the same weight as an E450. If Chevy follows Ford, the class C industry could revert back to the 70's.

If you want both of those, more front comfort and maybe better mileage?

Start looking for a Class C Based on a Chevy Chassis :B
  • This had been going around for about 2 years now.
We bought are last MH now anyway.
  • I have heard that they will keep building the same E-350 and E-450 for the next 4 years. By 2018, there might be a replacement T-450 and T-550. Probably not before they come out with a slightly larger engine, such as a Ecoboost V8.

    Ford has copyrights on the T-150, T-250, T-350, T-450 and T-550.

Right now, (well once Ford has caught up on T-150 - T-350 demand for the brand new model) Ford will be producing a T-350 cab and chassis. I would expect it to have either SRW or the current DRW with the 16" rims and light duty tires, so a GVWR similar to the 15 passenger T-350 DRW van - 10,500 GVWR.

So you might start to see some class B+ van based motorhomes with the gas 3.7L V6 based on the 10,000 GVWR DRW T-350. Some people will also install a service body truck - with a cab that has a factory back wall, or with a walk-through cab (such as a motorhome). They will offer both cab styles in the cab and chassis. To bad they are not putting the Ecoboost in the T-350 for now. I think that most motorhome makers will be waiting on the more powerful V6.

If you look up the Ford Towing Guide, and look on page 21, you can find the Transit GCVWR - it is limited to only 12,000 with the 3.7L gas V6 or 13,500 with the inline 5 Diesel. They do not list the Ecoboost with a Transit cab and chassis. Why I have no idea why they will not put the best engine in the cab and chassis.

    Good luck!

    Fred.
  • Eventually something will happen but as of right now the Transit cutaway doesn't even have the weight capability of the E350.....in fact it's a bit less than the Sprinter. The E series cutaways will remain in production for now.
