The warning signs did not say that they dropped the speed limit. The signs said that the lanes were CLOSED ahead. Closed means closed/blocked/impassable, etc. It does not mean that if you go slower or faster that you can get through that lane. It means that if you want to continue in that direction, at any speed, that you will have to move to another lane.
so you are saying that they did not lower the speed limit leading up to the closed lane area? that doesn't seem too bright to me.

Yes your Honor, I saw the lane closure warnings two miles before the accident, and I had plenty of time to move over and/or stop. After a few miles I figured the signs were mistaken so I just kept going in the curb lane. :R
you highlighted my point exactly. two miles before, after a few miles, etc. etc. why do they have to drop the speed limit all the way down 2 or more miles ahead? drop it to 55, then 50, then 45, etc. rather than 45 mph two miles of clear highway before the incident. sort of like crying wolf.

one problem with these two mile warnings is that in a lot of cases they drop the speed down to 45 mph two miles before the incident. you slow down to 45 and drive and drive and drive and nothing and you speed up a little bit and wham, there you are. no more wondering if they are really working today, etc.

X-2, plenty of warnings!
Here is another article which gives the following information:
TDOT says warning signs as far as two miles back prior to the collision site warned drivers of the lane closure ahead.
IF there were warning signs TWO miles prior to the accident site, there are no excuses.

But that is what we do here. :B
I note near the start of that video the commentator says "it is likely" or some such. well that likely cinches it.

I think the benefit of these Monday morning quarterback threads is that it might just make some chucklehead stop and think about what might happen. They always give you 2 miles of warning when closing a lane on the interstate but... I cannot count the number of fools who will drive right up to the closure and jam in. There should be a bounty, and no limit on these jerks.
