Newbie - '90 Holiday Rambler Limited DP Sagging Ceiling

Check around any roof vents in the ceiling area does the wood around the vent feel soft (dry rot) wood if so this is not the MH you want to buy. Also check for dry rot around the bottom of windows doors slide outs if any etc. Take a small pin and test the wood if it pushes in easy you have a problem

this may give you some idea what the ceiling construction of most rv is made up of.. this is a new ceiling and roof for my motorhome, the ceilings are normally glued and stapled , and the only time they sag is if water has gotten in, which can cause even more problems than just a couple of nails to put it back up

Are you taking about the ceiling liner? Or the actual roof drooping? When you go up there is there a dentation? If it's the roof, run away. If it's the liner, could just be age and there are fixes but they aren't fun.

And JW's advice is solid too.

not to scare you but this is the reason why i had to replace the roof> the 2X2's are suppose to go right to the top of the wall...

I'm talking about the roof liner, I called it the "ceiling: - maybe not the clearest description.
It seems to be made of a vinyl on the inside, some kind of cushioning (rubber foam?), then something stiff (maybe like car headliners have?).
I pushed it up, and it moved up about 1.5", then hit something solid. When I let it go and it came back down, it felt and sounded like it was sticking, maybe like tape peeling, then it would sag again. This why I think the adhesive that held it up has weakened.
Near any of the vents or lights it is very solid, the sagging is in the very center of an area about 6' long that has no lights, vents, etc.
Smart or not, I got on the roof (not all the way forward), and crawled around it some. I'm not a small guy at 255 lbs, and I could feel the aluminum skin "give" a little, then it held solidly.
I checked all the way around the coach, in all the overheads compartments, and corners, etc., and saw no signs anywhere of any water getting inside.

You have posted four different things wrong with this motorhome. If it were me I would run away from this "well cared for" work project.

If it's just the liner material, it may be simply age causing the adhesive holding it up to degrade. One potential easy and low-tech way of fixing that up is to put some staples in it (with a T-50 stapler); depending on the material, this may even be largely invisible. Another option might be a series of battens.

If the whole structure is sagging, you really don't want this motorhome.

As for four things wrong with it, they may all be minor... I'm keeping in mind the good price, and the fact that its' 28 years old. ... as for the majors:
- 114,000 miles
- Gillig chassis
- Cat Turbo diesel, from cold it started almost instantly, with only the smallest of grey puffs (we had a 1986 Diesel Suburban, perfect running condition, and it "puffed" more)
- Allison MT643 transmission
- Almost no corrosion anywhere! I was amazed how little corrosion for a 28 year old vehicle.
- Very good Michelin tires
- Beats our budget by several thousands
- We both loved the layout, the ruggedness, and the lack of slides. We plan to put miles on it, and prefer no slides.

sorry, I should have clarified...
Over the whole length of the roof, it is solidly held very well around any vents or lights. The section that sags is a length of about 6' that is between a light and the fan. The lights, etc. are solidly mounted to the roof and they seem to be solidly supporting the liner. the section between these items, where there is nothing supporting it, except maybe adhesive, is where it sags.
