Newbie. Wanting to buy a class A

Check out Newmars. We bought one a month ago. It was way over what we were looking at paying, but when you see the build quality, you may not mind spending the extra. For prices, there is a dealer in the Los Angeles area that beats most other dealers by $20 K! Tom Lindstrom RV in California. We were looking at used Winabegos, but ended up buying a new Newmar Bay Star. It's our first motorhome.

I think you will get better responses when you have a brand and model in mind. I'd go to a dealer or RV show and look at several to see what you like, then report your findings and thoughts.

Like the others have suggested, look at the floor plans offered by all of them and find a floor plan that you like. You will probably find that that same floor plan will be offered by more than one manufacturer but with some minor differences. Then you can come back to us and say "I'm looking at brand X model Y, and brand F model G, etc", and then we can help you see some of the positives or negatives with those floor plans and the manufacturers.

Unfortunately as also mentioned, they all seem to have flaws, and some seem to have more lately than they did previously. That is probably due to RV's becoming popular again as the economy and gas prices are favorable again, but as production ramped up the last few years, some standards seem to have fallen, and dealers are hurting to keep up with repairs. You might like the used ones if you can get a good deal just for the fact that the bugs may have already been worked out. I don't think many people will tell you to stay away from a particular brand even though we may have our favorite.

Crossovers just combine some features of an A with a class C at a more attractive price point. You can bargain a new one for 75k depending on layout. You can get a loaded sunseeker class c with full paint new for well under 75k.

I'm just a buyer who would prefer new to slightly used, however the new ones in my mind are bang for buck models. Quality is hard to gauge, and for some that use only for weekends and a couple weeks a year it's hard to shell out huge money for.

Hear tons of good things on Newmar. All I hear about tiffin is how great they are but sure a lot of people taking them back to the factory. Winnebagos seem very solid being inside but they are not as glitzy as some and schwintek slides scare people.

Everything has its plus and minuses....id let floor plans be your guide to start. How many camping, pets, guests? How many seat belts and bunks do you need and are you ok folding up couch or table into bed every night? Is the fridge big enough for how many traveling? Do you have enough storage on the outside? Class a has much more usually than c.

Also, if someone can give me a list of reputable manufacturers. That will be great!

I have seen some forest fr3 for less than $70k that are around 2013-2015. It's a crossover. Are any thing wrong with those? Please provide specific details such that I can understand.

What is wrong with crossover rvs?

I'll be doing more stationary rving with kids. Any recommendations?

Also I've seen a lot of rv on rv trader for like $70k and they were like 2013-2015 30ft and less than 10k miles. What are wrong with those?

I haven't check used prices as of late but at that price range you may have to go down to 2010.

All MHs in the years you are looking at will be built on the same chassis, use the same appliances and accessories . The discriminators would be the storage, full basement storage or the small cut out door storage that you see in Class C's, FW ,grey and black tank storage if you plan on dry camping. Another discriminator is the box construction, but this is harder to get info on as to the materials and process used to bond the side walls together. I like the hung wall concept rather than bonded panels only because they are not laminated so they can't delaminate. Newmar, and Monaco use this method. I would look for units with end caps. I would also look for units with two full pass throughs so you can store bikes, ladders, tables etc inside the MH. Some shorter MH's have only one AC this may be a discriminator depending how and where you camp. I would focus on the features that you want on the MH based on how you plan to use it and the general condition rather than brand, they all have problems. Check for water leakage and maintainance records.

The best advice I can give you is look at everything in your price range.
Don't just concentrate on a specific make/model. CONDITION is the important factor when buying a used RV.
How will you use the RV? Will you be traveling often or staying in place for long periods? Will you be traveling alone or with a wife/kids? If there are kids involved you probably want something with bunks. Setting up and taking down the couch/dinette every day gets old, real quick.


Look at everything, find a floor plan that suits your needs. Don't be in a hurry to buy. There are a lot of good deals available, take your time, you will find something that fits your budget and lifestyle.
When you find a unit that interests you, start asking questions on the forum about that model.
