- richard_123Explorerhave Winnebago 35Z, weight with toad 26000 #'s, I actually receive better mileage at 65-70 mph. Get 6.6-8.2 pulling I-81 thru Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania and in cruise control. When I drove from Winchester, Virginia across I-68 to Ohio running 64 mph mileage going west was 6.4 mpg and returning stepping up to 68 mph up received 7.2 mpg this was all hilly country. On the flat land going south. In my case My motor-home seems to do better between 65-70 mph. But with all this said I feel if I can average 6 mpg, and I have exceeded that its fine. My only concern with a gas motor-home is ability to brake at that speed.

I got a really nasty private message suggesting that I can't calculate gas mileage. Someone else said not to go by the gas guage. I know how to calculate gas mileage, and did so on the most recent trip we took. We were flat for the majority of the trip and drove conservatively. I know what the odometer reads and I have the gas receipts to go with it. I enter both into a notebook every time we fill.
I'm disappointed that this turned into what it did. Sad that people have to be so mean.
Sad isn't it? We just finished a trip from NJ to Gatlinburg TN, Smoky Mts. Towing a 4 door Wrangler average 8 mpgs. When not towing we consistently average 9-11 mpgs. At today's gas price in NY, $1 takes me 2 miles. Makes you think twice about heading out for a bottle of milk.
Next to depreciation, gas is now our biggest expense. All-in, 50 nights of camping costs us about $250 per night.
Do the math folks. RV'ing may be fun but it isn't cheap. - GoateeExplorerWith a new 35' gasser, we tried to measure for the first time over the 4th for a 850 mile trip. Tow a Jeep. We never let it go lower than a half tank so it makes it hard to gauge, but the best we could calculate was about 8.5. As I've posted before, I pulled a two horse trailer with a F150 and was lucky to get 8, so I have no complaints at all.
I'm glad I didn't buy a diesel because we in TN and NC get some mountains but not enough to justify a DP. And, this morning, a DP passed me big time towing a car/dolly while I was driving to work in my car on I-26, and I just wondered how much he/she was burning up being in such a hurry! - mustang652ExplorerWe've got a new 35 ft Thor full wall slide, fully loaded, towing an '07 Focus we are ranging 6.5 to 7.5 on first trip with an overall average of 7.1 on 1300 mile back to Vegas using cruise control set between 62-65. Once we're both broke in I'd it'll go up a bit, but I expect no more than a little over 8 at best.
- jrlibbie09Explorersome nice bunk gassers I have seen out there. Friend of mine has a 4 slide Tiffin Allegro gas with bunks, very nice. Mine is full slide w bath and half and king bed, 37', just got back from trip Dallas to Destin, towing Edge, gen running, both rooftops on, etc, prob ave around 7 mpg, at 64 mph, at 22k fully loaded. I have rented plenty of diesels over the years before we bought this one last year. Floorplan is what we wanted. Only real negative with our gas would be the lack of airbags for smoother ride. But camping we love ours. Good Luck

Anyone stating mileage on a Class A motorhome with the V10 engine in double digits needs to refigure their calculations. Have owned two now and both were in the 6-8mpg range depending on conditions. Would love to get 10+ but just not possible.
2500 RPM's and I get 10/13 on flat ground. Get killed in hilly areas.
We're talking averages. Hell, I get 99 mpg going downhill.:) I stand by my statement. - dcbrewerExplorerDon't have the V-10, but I always figure the 8.1 on 5 MPG when figuring a trip. think that is closer. It takes a lot to get out of the mountains!!! other than that never check it.
