Newmar owners - broken baggage lock help!!

I have a '02 Newmar. The baggage doors open from bottom and swing up. One of them won't open. It does "unlock" with the key, but nothing happens when I lift the latch. The plunger is not moving. It is a stand alone compartment, no access from other bay doors. OK, is there a trick someone can share with me on how to jimmy the door open?

thanks, Kathy
  • Op back. I will call Newmar tomorrow. Of course it breaks 3 days AFTER I left Newmar service center. Ugh. I did have another latch break but was able to get to it from another bay. Newmar sent me the part, link. It was an easy fix. But the bugaboo here is getting the bay open. Grrr
  • Have you called the Newmar service number?? If all else fails, I would call them, explain your problem and see if they might have an idea on how to get the door open.

  • Lay under door and move door out, try and push latch with a screwdriver. There is a broken link in the lock. I had this, since it was on the toilet flush compartment, I leave it unlocked. Newmar stocks the link. Enter the part number on the lock plate to get a part number,
  • Try pushing in at the lock with some pressure. I use my knee. Take it apart once open and clean and lube with dry lube.
