No 12 volt in overhead lights

I have a 1999 National Tradewinds and have no 12 volt in my overhead lights inside the coach. The side lights work fine and the bedroom night lights work fine. Just no power to the overhead fixtures. Any ideas? I have checked breakers inside the coach but am not sure about fuses elsewhere. All outlets are hot also.
  • Thanks for the replies. No switch inside the door. Haven't checked the fuse area yet. Yes, had dead engine starting batteries and several posts on house batteries were loose. May be a bad ground on house batteries. Will check that. Been busy with other things and it is too hot right now. Will let you know what I find when I find it. Thanks again, Arnold

Busskipper, sorry to hear you are having problems. One of the reasons I have no interest in a newer coach, besides the money is I've learned a bunch about this rig over the years. Nothing really serious... a blown fuse, must be 50 12v ones, but mainly upgrades, not problems. Hope you get things fixed.

If the suggestions given do not solve the issue - get out the Multi-meter and have at it.

And as has been suggested - slow down - relook at all the possible issues - KISS - is usually the easy way to solve these problems.

My Coach has been in MothBalls for a few years and it is amazing how the electronics and electrical connections will just run amuck. Ordered a Multimeter to be delivered today to try to solve most of my electrical issues (I have a slew of them, and left the electrical tool bag in the garage)

Forgot How Much Fun these Beasts are to keep running, Lucky for me I have my Brother for a week and he really can fix anything. Just hope I can get most of it done and restart the adventure in the Coach.

Sorry to Ramble on, Good Luck and let us know what you find.

  • I had a switch by my door also. I even went to far as replacing the light. I was not happy when I discovered the new light didn't work either, THEN I discovered the switch. I was laser-focused and never tried other lights.

I've also had one in a series loose wire in the wire nut. It stops all down series lights from working.
  • This is probably to simple, but it happened to me. Our 2008 HR diesel pusher suddenly had no ceiling lights. I could not believe 4 fluorescent bulbs burned out all at the same time. Guess what? To the right of the door is a switch for ceiling lights. In 3 years of use I never noticed it. Flipped it and everything was happy.

Your lights are 12V so no circuit breakers. Follow Doug's advice on where to find the little 12V plug in fuses.
  • National coach 12 volt fuses are in an outside storage. Usually at the pass side 2 rear compartments on a Diesel, but will always be on the Pass side compartments, if not at the 2 rear. Doug
