Norcold Ice Maker

Hi,

My new, to me, 1998 Holiday Rambler Endeavor Norcold Fridge came with an Ice Maker that works pretty good, i just found out this minute :D My water source comes from well water on the land i reside on. My question is,, what do i need to do to insure the ice purity starting with the fridge all the way to where the hose is attached??

TIA!

  • I have a U-Line ice maker and gave up using it because of all the different tastes. I can still afford a bag of ice that is free of taste.

Are you saying you've tried the advice mentioned here without success??

Yes but we do have really hard water.

Okay, the water here seems much nicer than what our water district provides, so i'll follow some of the advice here before i decide to buy ice this summer since i'm so thrilled to have an ice maker again!

  • Thank you all for your sound advice! I'm so looking forward to taking care of my new Land Yacht in the years to come. I do wish there were classes held on maintaining our rigs at Camping World and such, but for now, this wonderful forum and Youtube will have to do!

    YOU all are AWESOME!!

  • we use:
A standard filter on the outside water connection, the blue ones you can buy most anywhere.

Our Monaco has a whole house filter, we use a sediment filter on that.

We also have a big filter under the sink, feeds the cold water in the kitchen and the ice maker/fridge door water, we use a charcoal filter in that one.

    Ice cubes always taste good.

You don't want to use charcoal in the whole house filter, it takes the clorine out, only use charcoal on water you will drink.
  • Put a couple of ounces of bleach (non scented-- the cheap stuff) in the female end of your hose.

With water tanks and lines drained, fill completely. After 30 minutes, turn on the pressure water pump and open each faucet (hot and cold) until you smell chlorine. Let it sit for an hour.

Drain, fill, drain fill and use.

For ice maker, you can disconnect it at the solenoid or attach a short piece of hose to bleed until you smell bleach. Then turn on the ice maker and let it make a batch of ice. Throw it away. You are good to go.
  • Congrats on your new RV. Filter any water coming into the coach first. I shut the ice maker off if I'm gonna be on my RV tank water. Second, I also have an inline drinking filter that feeds into a drinking water spout and a line to the ice machine. That's about the norm. There is overkill out there too. :)
