Norcold Refrigerators...keeping doors closed

Hello all...

I have a 2008 HR Neptune and the Norcold refrigerator doors keeping beeping at me (to remind me that the door is opened). Suffice to say this is important. I called Norcold and the appropriately referred me to a Norcold dealership...but given that the doors will always be susceptible to the bending of the rig have any of you had this problem.

I should also add that they don't close tightly when sitting at a campsite. I guess I can purchase new hardware for the doors. The little lock lever does not secure the door closed.

Thanks...curious about your experiences.

Empty out the fridge...or at least make sure the door bins aren't hitting stuff on the shelves. Close the door(s) on a dollar bill and slowly pull the bill out. If you feel resistance, your seals are ok, then check the adjustment of the striker plates. If the bill pulls through easily, then your door gaskets are shot which could result in the door not staying shut due to poor sealing....Dennis
I did this test about a month ago and the dollar bill pulled out with little resistance. I removed the black plastic door latch and ground off about 3/16 in where it attaches to refrigerator. Retested and bill had resistance. Refer is a Norcold 682IM model 16 years old.
  • ours did the same dealer I use put in a shim or two and adjusted striker plates and good to go cheap fix tom

  • I always have issues if either 1) something in the top bin of the door is just a bit too tall and keeps the door from fully sealing (though it seems shut) or 2) something on one of the shelves is sticking out beyond the shelf and puts pressure against the door bins when you close the door, again keeping it from fully sealing though it seems shut.

Otherwise, almost 9 years of full-timing and about 40K miles and no other issues (other than the infamous recall!)
  • The sensor striker plates need adjusting. I wish they'd make them magnetic.... But oh well. It's a pretty easy/cheap fix.
  • Mine did the same and I had the dealer to adjust the striker plates and after 9,000 miles no more problem.
