Onan Generator

Hello All...

Picked up a 2001 Tioga the other day, everything works great except for the generator. In holding down the starter, it will crank, and sound as though it starts for a moment, then sputters and dies. It then will show error code 36....which from what I've read basically means a non computer controlled engine failure. I checked the fuel pump, seems to be flowing freely. I replaced the spark plug. In listening to the unit, as its sputtering down, it sounds that the internal float regulator isn't moving...I suspect it is gummed and stuck. The previous owner states the unit working fine regularly, though its been a few months since he ran it last.

So, what I'm trying to do next before completely removing the carb is to find the bowl drain to drain the fuel, and get in from the bottom to spray some carb cleaner in and let soak. Problem is, I can't find the bowl drain. From the online tech manuaal I found, it shows this being a screw immediatly below the altitude adjustment on the bowl, on mine there is no such screw, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

Any suggestions as to where this may be?

A month-or-a-few is more than enough for the carb to gum up if not "exercised" which is run at least half load for at least a half hour, monthly
  • Do you have more than 1/4 tank of gas? Generator will not run less than a quarter tank
