One Disadvantage of a DP

And also, my RV is currently insured for over $100k if it is totaled, and I think the collision portion of my policy is less than $300 annually. The entire policy is only $875 and liability is the biggest part of that. So $300 a year to make sure I fully protect over $100k, yeah it's worth it.

Interesting response. My prior RV was worth a little over $10K, and I never carried full coverage. The next one I'm hoping to purchase will be worth around $40K and I probably will carry comprehensive, but I won't carry collision. It's a risk-based decision, and although I may have an accident that is my fault, I'm willing to take that risk and pocket the difference. Sounds like you, on the other hand, are a fan of insurance. That's what I like about this forum.....lots of differences in opinion.

I was being sarcastic with the $200 remark. I personally would not be without collision on an RV worth $10k or more. And yes, I am a fan of insurance, just not the premiums.

I had a minor backing accident a few months ago and I have a backup camera. Was backing the motorhome into the shop using the camera and the mirror. I had some cut hardwood lumber stacked up along the wall and was trying to get close to it. The only thing I didn't calculate on was the tail pipe sticks out from the side of the motorhome by a few inches and I was trying to get within a few inches of the lumber. Tailpipe caught the lumber and pushed it over into the fiberglass before I saw what was happening. Just left marks that can be buffed out. And I used to load military vehicles onto airplanes so it can happen to the best of us.

jplante, I did read the entire thread and I did know you were serious. Mike Brez thought you were being sarcastic and he wasn't wrong for thinking that. It can be very hard to tell when you make such a provocative statement in your initial post. Maybe you simply didn't realize that some people would find your assertion outrageous. Perhaps you meant that one disadvantage of a DP is the high cost of repair if you hit a tree vs, the lower cost of repair if you hit a tree with a gasser. That would have been accepted immediately without ambiguity.

My I suggest you spend a few more pennies on the gas to cut the tree, that jumped in behind you, down?

I feel your pain and do not want to discuss how I know about backup damage. I did more to the pickup truck I hit but was simply a totally stupid operator error.....................in a brand new Diesel. Sadly, a an expensive lesson relearned but had no engine damage - fiberglass only. Good luck on the repairs. I feel you pain on all levels.

Diesel fuel for many years was cheaper then gasoline, then it switched around to where diesel was more expensive then gasoline.
NOW diesel here in Barstow, Ca. is like forty cents a gallon cheaper then regular gasoline.

And you are correct when you post that diesel should be cheaper. Gasoline is a refined fuel compared to diesel.
