Oregon RV site Ownership

Coast RV Resort is a private park located 5 miles inland from Florence along the Siuslaw River. No salt air, but plenty of wind being located on the river. It sits right along the highway going to Eugene. The park is behind a secure wall and gate and is not easily seen from the highway. It looks to be nice enough from the river though.

There is another park suitable for MotorHomes in Florence called Coastal Village, This park isn't high end but does have lots available at reasonable prices. The park is good size with park trailers and small manufactured homes on some of the lots. It also is gated.

Of the two, I would pick Coastal Village.

One other option is the Timber Valley Escapee park is Sutherlin Oregon located along I-5 about 60 miles inland. These lots are leased rather than owned. You need to be an escapee to lease a lot and I think there is a couple year waiting list.

Another option to buying a lot in a RV park, is just buying land too. You have to check and make sure it's legal to stay on the parcel for long periods of time in a RV, but you don't have to worry about monthly maintenance fees either. I have 20 acres of bare land I bought just outside of Yosemite and over the years I've camped there a lot. It's not legal where my land is to stay in a RV for long periods, but it's one of those rules the county doesn't regularly enforce unless they get complaints. And although I haven't done so yet, I can put in a well and power without having to build a house. I did have a nice level concrete RV pad poured on the land.

Private RV lots are not for everbody but can be a good idea for the right lifestyle. For us as full timers we have one in the north and one in the south. We travel a lot but like to have a home base where we have our little piece of paradise, maybe a little storage shed and facilities like Golf, Gym, Pools etc. Owners can rent out the site when not in use and supplement their income etc. Are they a good investment, depends on the person. For us they are part of our exit strategy and even with monthly maintenance fees and property taxes we are way ahead. Heres a few pics of the north and south homesteads.


Oh, and don't let anyone tell you that they somehow limit your travel. In the 11 years since we have been full timing and owned the lots we have been to 1 territory, 8 provinces and 62 North American States and logged over 160,000K, and we still manage to work as much as 5 months per year (but usually less).

Like I say, not for everybody but works for some.

For us, when it comes to RV campgrounds & resorts, Bigger isn't necessarily better.

There was a beautiful RV park in Gresham that I lived in for a year back in 2004. Had a great view of Mt. Hood. If I can find the name I'll post it. Not much help there. ;)

North Georgia is a beautiful area with lots of near by recreation and activities. Easy access to the major interstates whichever direction you're heading out.

Actually Escapees has a bunch of alternatives from leases on spots in their campgrounds for 5 years with storage lots, to cooperative campgrounds where membership includes a campsite with provision for storage building to titled lots with ability to build any kind of onsite facility from carport with add on room to full house with RV garage.

We keep looking but haven't found a place we want to stay for an o extended period nor have we determined that we actually want it yet. Fortunately money is not particularly an issue at this point in time.

Paul, there are a lot of these RV condo places that let you put various types of structures on the property too. I've even seen some where you can put a small swimming pool in. I would never go that far. I saw a place (I think it was in Florida, that was an RV community. The lots had structures and half the structure was an RV carport and the other half was an enclosed room. I don't recall if there was a bathroom in the structure or not. But basically you could have a big living room and then the RV would serve as the bedroom and kitchen and bath. Something like that would be a nice home base for a full timer.
