Perplexed by Newmar

I have had the same problems with my Newmar Kountry Star coach. Wipers are a big problem with Newmar and they don't know why. I have now changed to 28 inch wipers with my second motor from Newmar. The reason they are out of motors is because they sell a lot. They had 2 when I got mine ($300). Be sure youn check the wiring for moistur at the connections. I have not used the 28 inch wipers yet. I hope you get your problem solved.

Our steps became gear grinders and failed to function. I went to a local truck repair shop. When the unit was removed the technician was amazed to find nothing but gear dust and no more gears. He found it was just a wiper motor but the replacement would be about $700 through RV suppliers. An hour later he called again and said he remembered he had 3 wiper motors on hand, examined them and found they were the same as the motor in my steps, but they had metal gears. He charged me $250 and steps work fine. Best of all, no more gear dust from plastic gears. My message is, look to truck parts rather than RV parts. They might be made better and easier to get.

Search for Cleveland Ignition. They manf. most of the system for trucks and RV

Become a manufacturer or "just" a dealer and these parts access problems will magically disappear.

Now that you have the motor out of the MH take it to NAPA and see what they have. They usually have a book with p ictures and details on things like that.

As someone who has worked in a service/parts department, I'd say this practice is close to universal.

Service/parts high markups are $$$ makers that can actually support a business, especially in bad times.

Is it fair? Is it good customer service? Doesn't matter, it's business reality.

Even though Monaco uses Carling switches on most of their coaches, (later models anyway) they have an agreement with Carling that the P/N are Monaco's and not Carlings....and the number stamped on the switch is indeed Monaco's not Carling....their policy seems reasonable to me.....Dennis

This is not good customer service IMHO!

Google "Sands RV parts" in Ohio, they have parts for everything! I needed a new wiper arm, took the old one off and went there, paid about 1/4 1/3 of what Newmar or anyone else wanted.
