Please Help - 1999 Tiffin - Asking for Advise ASAP

I found a 1999 Tiffin Allegro model 39 Bus for sale within a couple hours drive. Have never owned an RV but have been looking all summer. Heading there Saturday and hope to purchase it if it is as represented. The coach has been stored inside by its original owner who traded it back to the dealer he purchased it from. Mileage is 76,000, diesel genset has 2000 hours. Recently had the hydraulic leveling system "rebuilt" and air bags replaced. New tires on rear, new front tires come with the deal.

Price is $39,900, non negotiable. It was sold up until today when the out of state buyer's credit did not go through.

Please help me with any information you may have on this coach, known problems, water issues etc. Also would like to hear the good points.

Thanks so much, this may be the one!!

  • That's a lot of generator hours...sounds like the unit's been "fulltimed" in, which means that a lot of things like upholstery, flooring, paint, etc. will likely be about worn out.
    Also:
Let me guess- it's "never been smoked in", nor has any pet ever crossed the threshold- am I right? :R

First of all, which engine does it have? Does the owner have detailed & current maintenance records you can review? If not forget it. If the rig wasn't maintained well it doesn't matter what the rest of it looks like. When was the tranny serviced? When were the valves adjusted & who did it? How old are the batteries? If you have to replace 4 house and 2 engine you are talking about another $1,000 or so. Has the coach ever been in an accident? Are there any leaks? What condition are the awning in? Do the slides work correctly and when were they serviced. Is the underside of the coach dry? When did the owner service the radiator and coolant change plus the hoses, belts and thermostat? That is a start. Don't rush into this there are many, many RVs out there. Good luck.

    Good AdviCe.

  • For that price do they guarantee all appliances? Will they perform a pressure test and fix any know leaks?
  • Does sound nice. I expect you are aware of potential repair cost for a DP which can be higher than for gasser. Radiator and water pump could be up for replacement if replaced already.12-13 year old vehicles will have the normal stuff. House wise the frig is the only thing I can think of that is due replacing. 2000 hours should not hurt a diesel generator but does show a lot of useage.

We looked at one MH and the carpet near the door was so worned meaning it was lived in when parked.

Non negotiable sounds strange coming from a MH dealer. :)
