Power Gear Levelers

I currently have Power Gear levelers on my Itasca Sunrise. They have been troublesome ever since I bought the rig. The control panel always reads low on the front and the right side. If the site is even slightly unlevel I end up having to use a lot of blocks and often cannot get level, even with blocks.

I have tried doing everything I can think of (adjusting tire pressure, got new Koni FSD's, etc.)

Does anyone have suggestions ? I'm thinking it may need adjustments or repair.

Any suggestions or alternatives are welcome.

  • Normally PG will not talk to a customer...dealer only. Send them an email, they will respond to that. Or, go to a dealer, explain the problem and let him call them...worked for me.
  • Resetting Auto Level System.........

Turn the coach ignition to the accessory position. With the coach in a level attitude press and
hold the ALL UP, BI-LEVEL FRONT and BI-LEVEL REAR buttons simultaneously. You should
hear an audible beep. Turn the control ‘on’ and all four indicator lights should now be lit
indicating the level sensor is showing the coach to be level. If all four LEDs are not
illuminated, repeat last 2 steps. (NOTE: Coach must be level first.)
  • Thanks for all of the good advice. I will try the suggestions, until I come up with a solution.
  • I ONLY use manual (to get there, hold the manual button down several seconds, until the manual light lights.

I always fully dump all the air first. Then lift the front until it rises an inch. Then lift the low side rear until it indicates level side to side.
Then lift the high side rear until it touches the ground.
Then touch it up. bing, you are level.

I use a round bubble level on the floor where I can see it.
Powergear's "set level" procedure is not difficult, download the instructions as stated above. But it still doesn't seem perfect and doesn't hold. easier for me to just set the bubble level on the tile.

your automatic levelers really have nothing to do with tire pressure or shocks or anything else. Your system may just need to be reset to level. Its easy to do but you will need the instruction sheet from Powergear's web sight. Just print the sheet for automatic leveler adjustment or call PowerGear, they are always willing to help. Good luck.
NO!!!...They will not talk to a retail customer on the phone. The even gave my rv repair guy(he is registered with them) a hard timand it is taking over a week for my parts to come to him. Times have changed!
I had just the opposite response from them. Guess it just matters who you get. All my response was e mail and got my issues fixed rat now. Larry
  • What I do and it might not be the best thing to do, but I put a round bubble level in the freezing compartment of the refrigerator and if the auto level does not level, I will use the manual part of the leveling system to finish the level of the bubble. It has worked so far. If there is a better way, I too, would like to know.

Power gear levelers have 3 major modules not counting the jacks
    One is the control panel
    One is the pump/valve assembly
And the one you need to find is the sensor assembly.. I can not describe it to you but it has adjustments on it. And it is likely under the coach (But no need for it to be there.

Using a pair of carpenter's levels, or one of those square or round bubble levels and the manual overrides on your panel LEVEL the RV.
Then find that box (Well find it first) and adjust till it believes it is level.

Or you can have a dealer do this. Should take less than one hour (minimum billing at most dealers) if they do it.

One other thing about power gear jacks, in case you have yet to come across.

The "Jacks down" sensor on Power gear hydraulics is a float valve in the fluid tank, If the tank is low on fluid, (Dextron III or Mercron something) then it thinks the jacks are down.

IN August, when temps are in the 100+ range, the fluid expands due to heat much faster than the steel tank, the result, overflow.

Then comes January when the reverse happens, The result, LOW JACK ALARM.

The fix: Add fluid,, Read the manual if you want to do it right,,, usually do not do it that way.
