Powergear jacks

I have a 2002 Holiday Endeavor with power gear jacks. The front jacks work together and the rear jacks lt. side and. rt. side separately to facilitate side to side leveling. When I lower the left rear jack to lift that side it will only lift part of the distance needed even though the jack has more travel. This is a manual leveling system. Has anyone had this problem. If so what did you find ?
  • Are you sure the jack in question has more travel? If it does, maybe you should check the oil in the reservoir. (DextronIII, if yours is like mine, a 2001 gasser)

    The front jacks, as you say, work together. The rear jacks also come down together, but then they are the ones that level the coach and the fronts then follow along. It's called by some, the "slave" system. Rears, level, fronts follow along.
    I try to avoid extending the jacks fully. When faced with that, I put the square plastic spacers used for the tires under the jack "foots". Of course, the plastic squares are, by that time, under the tires if leveling calls for them.

    If possible, try putting down just the left rear until it hits the ground and lifts the coach. If just the rear leg does not move to the ground and stops, then its possible that the leg may be bent. Putting down this leg will eliminate any issue with low fluid since you are operating just this leg.

    If your system does not allow for putting down just this leg, then put down the minimum amount of legs to verify if the leg will travel the full range. I've seen this before on other coaches and the out come was usually a bent leg. It doesn't take much to bend a leg.

  • 2 things can usually cause this
    1. LOW fluid level causing NO fluid to be available to lift, BUT, that would cause the Jack down light to come on when fully retracted
    2. The Pump motor is NOT producing the 2800 to 3200 psi required to lift the RV. The REAR jacks have MORE weight to lift than the front. Have you tried just lifting the REAR by itself and it does not extend fully?
    3. I have never seen this problem that was not caused by 1 and 2 above. Doug
  • Thanks everyone for the ideas. I suspect dougrainer is correct in the fact that the pump is not putting out enough pressure to the rear jack to pickup the left side of the coach. I will some more ideas when we get home. We are out for another week and I managed to get the coach level. Don't want to let it down May not be Abel to get it back up.
  • I had one once (in a '99 pace arrow) that the pump gears had worn a depression in the housing.
    It made all the right noises and all the jacks went to the ground without a problem, but there was no power there, no pressure, once the load came up, the oils just ran around the excessive clearance inside the pump.

    I found a new replacement unit on ebay for a fraction of powergear's cost.
  • My Manual power gear jacks have a button to control both fronts together and three buttons for the rear jacks, 1 button controls both rear jack at the same time and 1 button controls just the right rear, and 1 button controls just the left rear. The way I do it is to level front to rear first using just the front button and then just the center rear button which operates both rear jacks at the same time. When I do this I only raise the low end first, for instance front low, raise the front until it reaches 1/2 bubble past level, then raise both rears using the center rear button until the bubble returns to level. Now I am level front to rear. Then and only then, I level side to side using either the right rear or the left rear which ever one is the low side.
    So relook at your panel to see if you have the same configuration of buttons. The secret as I see it is to NOT level side to side using the rear right or left jack until you have leveled front to rear using all 4 jacks, then fine tune for side to side level just using the RR or just the LR. If you have used just the right or left rear by itself and raised it pretty high, you could have extended to far and possibly bent the jack in the process. Hope I have stated this clear enough.     One thing more, if the jacks don't extend enough to reach the ground, you should put some blocks under the jack pads to make up the differenc3. Some 3/4 inch plywood pads 12 inches square can de used as is or stacked as high as needed to accomplish this
  • Thanks everyone for your ideas. I will work through these ideas when I get home next week. Coach is level now and I will leave it that way for now. Other wise I might lower it experimenting and may not be abel to get it level again.
