Problem with slide? Advice?

The bedroom slide on my 2013 Newmar Bay Star doesn't look right.

When extended there is about a 1/2" gap along the top facia on the inside. The foam on the inner side of the top facia board doesn't quite touch the wall but it fits tight on the lower vertical facia boards.

When retracted the bottom of the slide doesn't quite fit flush with the sides of the coach as it has in the past. It seems to be out about 1/4" or so from fitting completely flush. I've owned the coach for almost two years, and this is the first time I've noticed this.

(The slides are flush fitting not the type with the flange that presses against the outside wall.)

Is this something I should have looked at immediately?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Ken

  • The PURPOSE of Newmar Slide locks is to pull the TOP in tight for a weathertight seal. Doug

    1. The INSIDE foam gasket you see is NOT the room seal but to keep the fascia from marring the sidewall if it goes far enough out. Usually, what you have noticed is a normal gap on a Newmar
    2. The Outside Flange, should pull tight. There is an adjustment to pull tighter. Are the lock arms engaged? If not, engage them and see if it pulls in tight. Doug

The lock arms are not engaged. They are very difficult to get to on the bedroom slide, even using the provided tool so I've never used them. I have to be honest and admit I've never used the lock arms on the large living room / dinette slide. I keep thinking I should get in the habit of locking that one for traveling since it is a larger slide.

Since the coach is almost two years old, and I've not seen this slight misalignment in the slide until now, some have suggested the slide topper is out of adjustment. Do they get out of adjustment on their own?

Taking a closer look at the slide in the retracted position is appears that only the lower right corner (as viewed from the outside) is slightly protruding and only by less than 1/4". Just enough upon close inspection to notice.

Perhaps I'll run in out and in a few times and see if the situation changes.

Thanks for all the advice so far, and if anyone has more ideas or suggestions let me know.

If it continues to be an issue I will take it to the dealer for possible adjustment.

    Thanks, Ken

It sounds like and adustment.. Now, slides come in 3 or 4 types

I have: Cable cars (Accu-Slide company) these show 4 cables, 2 on the foreward side of the slide 2 on the rearward side (Forward and rearward refer to direction of travel when on the road) when extended (There are matching cables when retracted too but usually you can not see them)

Adustment of the bolts on the motor end of the cabes will fix.

I also have a rack & Pinion (power gear) slide.

And there are Hydrauoic (HWH for example) slides.

Theory has it you could use an electric worm gear but I've never seen one

With the excpetion of the cable car they all have adjustment bolts and it may be the outer edge of the slide is adjusted too high.. A dealer or service technician (mobile or shop) can improve this situtation for you.. So can I but, this goes beyond what I'd feel comfortable doing to someone else's RV.
  • Seems like you may have jumped a tooth or 2 on the track. Is the slide electric or hydraulic? If electric and you skipped a tooth somehow, you should be able to adjust 1/4" in on the bottom making the top more flush
  • It can be and sounds like it needs to be a adjusted. It seemed to be an easy task when I had mine adjusted. I did not do it and do not know how but think it is not a tough job

Could simply be an adjustment. I would call a dealer and/or Newmar.
