Therefore I would need to use their truck diesel islands to fuel up but have read many times in forums that some truckers take a dim view on RVs using their fueling stations.
Have you or do you use the truck diesel islands and if so what experiences have you had.
I'm not sure what forums your reading telling you truckers take a dim view of RVs using the truck lanes.
I've been filling at the diesel truck lanes at all major truck stops for over 12 years and never had a negative experience. Usually if there is any conversation between a trucker and myself it's questions about our mh and it has always been a pleasant conversation.
Don't let misinformation from some forum keep you from using the truck lanes. Pilot/FlyingJ are very RV friendly and offer fuel pricing incentives. I like to suggest that you get the Pilot/FlyingJ RV Plus Charge Card. You can get up to a $2000 charge limit.
With this card you can get up to a 7 cent discount per gallon of gas and up to a 9 cent discount per gallon of diesel. That discount is off the CASH price. Example: when paying for diesel, if you pay with your debit/credit card you will typically pay 6 cents above the cash price. If using the RV Plus card you would get the 9 cents off the cash price. Which would be a 15 cent per gallon savings over your debit/credit card.
The RV Plus card is not a revolving balance card. The balance on the card must be paid off monthly (which is a good idea anyway).
There are other perks, discounted dumping fees, free coffee and such. But the perk I like the most is that I can swipe the RV Plus card at the pump in the truck lanes and when I done I can just drive away. There is no dollar limit, the pump will not shut off which is common when using a debit/charge card. I don't have to go back in to finish the transaction. But if I do want a receipt I just go inside and use the truckers kiosk, swipe my card and get a printed receipt - no waiting to see the cashier. - prstlkExplorer38 ft MH with 20 ft trailer 60 ft plus with hitch.
The good...truck lanes are great because they pump faster and have larger hoses, some allow you to pump from both sides in a single purchase which is greal if you have doors on both sides.
the bad..most take fleet cards only so you have to go inside twice. I also noticed most truck lanes are dirty with spilled fuel and gunk
X2 on in and out as quick as you can.
Ps some states like az charge more in the truck lane (.18 per Gallon) you can get an adjustmet if you can find a clerk who knows how - RichertExplorerDoesn't matter if filling with Diesel or Gas, MOVE the thing out of the way so others can fill up and get going, I have sat for 20+ minutes in the RV only lane while someone is inside the store doing WHAT???????????? Couldn't back up and move so waiting was the only option. RUDE or not?

Just a point of interest for anyone who isn't aware of recent upgrades in fraud security protocols.
We made a trip from PA to CA and back to PA recently and had our card declined the first time we pulled in for fuel in Indiana. Fraud alert was triggered because we were outside our normal area of use and had not notified the card company. Once we called them and told them our travel schedule all was well for the balance of the trip. Just a little glitch, but personally I am glad they are watching as closely as they are. The rapid expansion in identy theft is a real problem for the users as well as the card companies.
This has been in place for most cards for years. Just call you CC company and tell them you're travelling... - hipowerExplorerJust a point of interest for anyone who isn't aware of recent upgrades in fraud security protocols.

I can usually guess within a few dollars how much it will take to fill. (While fueling I check the tires and clean the windshield and mirrors as needed and the DW walks the dog.) Go back out and complete the fueling, pull forward so anyone waiting can get started on their transaction. Return to the fuel desk and get completed transaction receipt. Return to the coach and either move on down the road or park and do whatever else we need to do.

^^^^^ That's one of the reasons I look for RV lanes... Been there.. Done that...I was blocked in front and back one trip for 30 minutes.. The guy behind me had to wait for someone else to move so he could back up enough to allow me to back out of the pump when I was done..
If you call inside, They will tell the people to move,

I honestly had no idea that worked!??? Sounds like I will have to try that on the next trip...- down_homeExplorer IISometimes we find Diesel where we pull in, fill and go inside and pay.
Other times and most of the time, there is some reason or another, wife goes in with payment or card and I wait until pump activated and fill. She finishes the transaction and comes out and we leave.
We use two handheld radios so she won't have to come back out until finishing transaction and I radio in. Most of the time there is too much noise and distance sometimes to do otherwise. - vegasfoodguyExplorer II
