Refrigerator issue - "termo fuse" keeps popping

I have a dometic.

On the back side of the fridge (through outdoor panel) there is a tube that gets hot. It has a electric heating element going into it, and on the bottom is where the gas comes in (for flame).

In the center there is some kind of "fuse", with a small button in the middle of two wires on the sides of it. I think it's some kind of thermo fuse or reset.

My symptoms are that the fridge comes on for a short while (10-15 mins) then all power goes off on the fridge. If I go reset that small button on the "fuse" as mentioned above, the power comes back on.

The pipe the fuse is on is getting hot....

I can only assume it is blowing the fuse for being too hot.

The fridge is not getting cold at all the entire time it is on for 10-15 minutes.

Any pointers or suggestions?
(This is in my bounder)

Thank you!

Yes that is a 'thermo' fuse. It trips on high temps. It shuts down all 12V DC power so fridge doesn't continue to operate and BURN DOWN.

    It is a safety device.
Get the system checked out........and stop trying to run that fridge before you have a fire

    X2

Is your unit one of the recalled units?

I believe they had a problem similar to this with some units.I could be wrong but go to http://67.238.126.140/recall.php and enter your model and serial number

The recall ADDED this part. Doug

Hmm, I wonder if the upper vent could be causing this on electric. I take it that the vent is on the roof? May be clooged with bugs/hornets nest, etc.

Something is causing that thermo to pop.

If you have a BAD cooling unit, the Thermo will "pop"
If you have blocked ventilation (your roof vent) the Thermo will pop
If the Thermo is BAD, it will pop
When the Thermo pops and continues to pop, the ONLY thing a novice can do is check that roof vent for obstructions. IF NO problems there, you need to get it in to a qualified Refer tech to find out if the CU is bad or the Thermo disc is bad. Doug

  • Oh yes to add, the fins inside the fridge are not getting cold, didn't expect the fridge to get that cold that quick. :)
  • I think it happened to me, I found the electric heaters were bad. That was a few years ago, so I may be wrong. I just removed my Norcold, and am in the process of installing a residential refrigerator.
