- 10forty2ExplorerTo answer your initial question on how to remove the old set..... ours is in the front dash as well. There is a trim piece around the tv that pretty much holds the set in place. There are 4 plugs/beauty covers, one on each corner. Ease a small bladed screwdriver under each, gently pull them out and there will be a recessed screw beneath them. Remove the screws, then remove the trim piece and the tv should come right out. At least that's how MINE works. Good luck and please post what you do to replace it or what you put in place of that hole. I'm trying to engineer in my mind what I want to do with that old, non-functioning tv too. Thinking about a flat screen like the one posted earlier, but I don't want it there permanently. I'd like to make a storage bin or component bin in place of the old tv to hold the satellite box/dvd player/stereo amplifier, etc. Just not sure at this stage and am looking for additional ideas. I guess I'll eventually be forced to join Pinterest since my wife seems to find all sorts of inspiration for our house! ;-)
- saddlesoreExplorerI have a '99 Four Winds / Thor Infinity that has the TV in the dash.
What I did was pull out the old TV and then used a small sawzall to trim the front of the plastic cover so the flat screen would set vertical against the dash. Then used a lockable position wall mount. I drilled the holes to mount into the engine cover (with a 3" x 6" backing plate)and mounted the TV.And used the old TV strap to hold the top in place.(felt that more tie down points couldn't hurt)
The reason I did not put the TV in the overhead bin/ceiling is that I have seen several that there wasn't enough support in the overhead structure to support the weight of a large flatscreen and when the mounts failed tore the hell out of the overhead or ceiling, not to mention what the end result to the TV was.
Hope this helps. - crassterExplorer III think it's a great place to mount a laptop with MS streets and trips GPS with all the updates. :) ++ mobile internet
- Not_a_Yurt_ExplorerHere's what we replaced the front TV with in our 1998 Pace Arrow Vision. It took a Sawsall, some wood supports, plywood, drawer hardware, sheet vinyl, and patience, but it was worth the effort. The main TV, when we want to watch it, is set up on small fold-up table opposite the couch . Most times, we don't set it up at all and just leave it stored behind the couch. We mostly watch the bedroom TV for the weather or the late news. Good luck with your TV mod. You will be happy to clear the decks of your dash of the big obsolete box.

There were wood plugs that covered up bolts that held the TV in place. There were also bolts in the bottom. The front frame comes off to get the TV out. There are some good illustrations on the Newmar forum on IRV2.net.

It's not how to get it out but what you put in it's place.
Just an example of what we did . . . . and extremely functional.
32" flat panel TV sits on a passenger chair for viewing, flat on bed while traveling.
Old TV had a strap that had to be loosed by reaching from under the radio. 120V TV outlet was on engine firewall near left foot (Fleetwood).
Good luck,
