Replacing shocks

Hi all. I have a 2001 30 ft. Winnebago Brave with 53,0580 miles logged on. Just returned from a trip to Parker, Az. from Lake Tahoe. Lots of wind and crazy California roads. The old girl seemed to bouncing a bit and I'm thinking I should replace the shocks. Would a set of Monroe Gas Magnum be sufficient for a gross weight of 18,000 lbs.?

Thank you in advance for your advice.
  • Yes Monroe RV shocks is what I have on a 32 footer, Monroe's as far as I am concerned is a better shock for motorhomes that weigh under 20,000 lbs because they offer a softer ride where as Bilstein's are stiffer and will ride ruff on us lighter motorhomes..
  • Shouldn't be a problem. Not a difficult job to change them if you have the tools and mobility get under the coach. Took me about 15-20 minutes a shock but having air tools helps speed up the process.
  • Monroe makes good stuff. Just make sure you get the ones for your RV. Shocks don't get replaced enough. They go bad a little at a time and people don't notice how bad they've got. Might also be a good idea to look at all the suspension parts like sway bar bushings.
  • I have bilsteins on mine, came on it when I bought it second hand. I think they ride extremely harsh. I weigh about 17,000 lbs.33 footer. I am a big fan of monroe on all my other vehicles. But everyone on here loves Koni or bilstein. Let us know how it rides. I have thought of replacing mine with Monroe. They are a lot less expensive than the other brands. But I don't think that makes them a less quality product.
  • I had a 34' P32 chassis that came with Bilstein's. The ride was firm but on the harsh side when crossing bridge seams on the roadway. Changed out with Monroe RV Magnum's and the ride was verrrrrry much improved!

Were they just not smooth or did they feel too smooshy? I'm curious on this one.
  • Thanks everyone. Knew I could count on you. After much research on line I came up with Monroe Gas Mags. # 557001 and 557007 at "Shock Warehouse" for around $68.00 ea. with free shipping. That sound about right?

    Thank you again.
