I've already posted what I myself see in the video.
I don't believe it's a picture show film (with frames). All I can do is stop/start/stop/start/stop/start.....at different frequencies. And, not once do I detect that this driver ever have control of his motorhome (at any time after the tire blew out). It was out of his control, and that explains why the motorhome simply kept veering to the left, and went down the incline and became intangled with the cable. The motorhome did exactly what I would predict, when there is no corrective action by the driver.
When a front steer tire suddenly fails, there is NO time to think about what to do. You have to instantly react correctly. He didn't.
It's similar to an engine failure on the takeoff roll at 120 mph on a twin engine jet aircraft. If you fail to immediately counter the adverse yaw,.....you crash. - Kayteg1Explorer IIWithout feedback from the driver and murky situation about cable role, we do have speculate a bit, but after first surprize with flat pulling him to the left, the driver reacted and straighten the coach to the right.
He overreacted a bit and straighten it pretty good to the left and at that moment cable took over the control.
Bottom line the coach under driver control did not go into opposite lane of traffic.
Would driver not react, the coach would be on its side before hitting center of the freeway. - 427435ExplorerI don't think the driver had regained any control. The MH just turned to the right because of the median bank it started to run into (and possible the cable).
As another person said, by the time the MH left the pavement the driver was just another passenger. - Bird_FreakExplorer II

OK, where do I go to school practicing cable snatching?
Have never seen those things on West coast, so what states should I avoid?
This way, or another I see long solicitation on the accident
After the praise that the local highway patrol gave about the cable system in the original article for this accident, I would expect to see more use of cables, at least in that state.
The outcome to me, since the vehicle ended up crossing opposing lanes of traffic, was unacceptable, but the officers seem to think it performed well. Go figure??????
Since the cable barrier FAILED to keep the vehicle out of opposing traffic (which is it's designed purpose) and SUCCEEDED in destabilizing and contributing to a rollover IMO the officer quoted was defending the interests of the state. As in avoiding accountability for installing safety equipment that clearly did not perform. - Cloud_DancerExplorer III've already posted what I myself see in the video.
- Kayteg1Explorer IIYou can't change what video shows that the motorhome was going straight on the center divider with what seems to be under full control till the cable kicked it over.
Talking about Police officers education - they do have lot of things to remember and simply can't be expert engineers.
I did some commercial hauling with my pickup and could never figure out signs at CA DOT weight stations "no pickups". So one time I stopped at one and went inside asking DOT officer what is definition of pickup.
He had no idea and after searching heavy books for about 10 minutes finally gave me official definition. You'd be really surprised. - Cloud_DancerExplorer II

Primary factor. Tire failure,
Secondary factor- Safety cable. He may have recovered it if not for it snatching him sideways.
I don't think so. IMO in event of a front tire blowout, if the driver does not have control of the large motorhome by the time it starts rolling on grass,......he's just a passenger,....at the mercy of LADY LUCK. - rgatijnet1Explorer III
