Schwintek must not stop while extending/retracting?

Took my RV in for service/warranty recently. One of the problems I have had is pretty much since Day 1, the slide out has been misaligned. Irregardless, the repair shop told me that they see this when the slide outs are not operated properly.

I asked them what that meant, and they said that for these slides, I must ALWAYS fully extend the slide without stopping when putting them out, and additionally, when putting them in, fully putting it in without stopping.

Now I am not saying that I make it a habit of only putting it out 1/3 of the way, but it seems hugely flawed to develop a system that can be misaligned by stopping while putting it out/in. I can see many cases where you may not want to fully extend it, and I have stopped before if I believe I am going to hit a tree or have issues inside the coach.

They told me that it should be covered under warranty, but they have seen issues such as this denied on claims in the past.

Is it true that I can't stop in the middle of extending/retracting the slide?

LOL I think the same thing every time I operate ours and it's just on the small bedroom slide..

But seriously yes they do tell you to extend them fully and retract them fully. Don't let off the button until the motors load up and quit. I guess that keeps them running the same speed...
  • 1. LCI states to never stop before extending or retracting
    2. I do this ALL THE TIME when working on the RV's with no problems
    3. Now, regardless of full or partial retract or extend, all you have to do when the room is fully Extended or Retracted after ANY operation whether Partial or Fully is to hold the Button down for 10 seconds after Fully retracted or Extended. This resets the counter on the module. This holding the Extend or Retract for 10 seconds has always been required on Scwintek Slides. IF you do not do this and the counter gets slightly out of Synch, then after a few times the room comes in crooked. IF this happens, just fully Extend or Retract whichever is closer and hold the button down for 10 seconds. Doug

Yes, it is true. I dont have schwiteck but have looked into it. I dont remember if there is a hall effect sensor that is counting revolutions or if it's looking at stopped/locked motor amps so as to keep both sides synchronized. Letting up on the switch without the card seeing that both motors have reached the end of their travel messes up it's mind if you then try to continue to go out again. If you stop mid way, you then need to retract fully and start over.

+1 like it or not yes it is true. We just had ours repaired and the tech was emphatic about it since the motors count revolutions. Hold the switch on either way 5 sec or so to make sure the motors have completely stopped. So say the experts.

  • While I don't make a practice of it, I have stopped our slides many times when I see something that may hang up on extension. I do not have Swintek slides.

That said, slides can be adjusted to eliminate the problems you are having.

  • I never heard of that.

We've stopped slides midway probably a hundred times or more.

I think I would contact your RV manufacturer and ask them.
  • Not in my experience, with the same brand of mechanism
