Sell it then promise to fix it....seriously

Wouldn't it be easier to sell if you fixed it first??

Stopped at CW in Fairview Oregon today. While there got to looking at new 36ft DP. Looked at two Tucsons both 36ft.

Walk up to the first one and living room awning is half open and tore up pretty bad. Looks like maybe it unfurled while traveling.

When we went in the first one the first thing you see on the dash is a couple of pieces of wire, a nail and a plastic disc that is obviously an insert to cover a hole somewhere.

Then you get in the coach and see that the frig has no trim on the bottom. Bathroom door won't close.

Walk up to the second one and first thing you see is that the driver side windshield wiper is missing and there is a dirty old rag tied to the wiper arm. Inside is filthy.

Of course salesman agreed that everything would be fixed before delivery.

If you know you are going to fix it anyway why not fix it now? Not only do I have no interest in either of these coaches but I question buying a rig from CW do to attitude of care. I was surprised that the sales manager actually asked a salesman to show us these two coaches that were out on the sales line.
  • If it seems just cosmetic, offer half price or less as is. No deal, just walk.
Stuff still needs to work so complete inspection is still needed.
  • Couldn't agree more. Stopped at the same place 2 years ago and found similar problems - including cabinet doors hanging from one hinge. Was promised that all the obvious problems would be corrected before delivery. Walked away & drove to CW Hillsboro and found them no more professional. Finally drove to a competitor in Eugene and purchased a new unit. I'm a very long time CW customer and simply don't understand why their retail outlets are so unprofessional. BTW - went to their new Coburg Oregon store a couple weeks ago looking for an oil filter for our 7kw Onan generator. The parts person looked and looked and looked at his computer screen - I finally got tired of waiting and told him I'd find one elsewhere.
  • We looked a dealer last year was a new motorhome and no gas to run generator, trim on slide out was laying on the floor, controller for drivers seat was missing so you could not move the seat back, and batt's were dead. My thought being in sales for 20 years was your kidding right. when the salesman asked what I thought I told him I were you I would look for a new job as this place is not going to last long. they closed 2 months later after failing to pay employees.
  • Showing coaches in that condition just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe they were consignment coaches or something, but I can't think why any serious attempt to sell a high-value product would not have them clean & repaired first!
  • Because they don't want to fix it now and have more things break and come back and do it again. But I agree with your assessment in that I would not buy a coach in that condition anyway. If those are the things you can see, what is wrong that you can't see?

Next time I buy a motorhome, before I sign the final docs, I will do a very thorough walk through and mechanical check. Anything that is wrong I'll tell them to fix it and once they are done then I'll sign the docs and take possession. If they don't agree to that then I won't be buying another motorhome.

I like my current motorhome but it spent well over a month in the shop when I bought it fixing some really minor things. It was just a comedy of errors. There was no motivation for them to fix it because I already bought the darn thing.
