Slide out lock

kyclassa, we pulled over to the side of the road, took a 2x2 that I happened to have and along with Lego blocks we were able to brace it in until we made it to Indiana. A friend helped put in new shear pins and also gave us 2 of the slide locks which we make sure to us. Our MH never came with the locks.

fordsooperdooty, it does happen, I had the bedroom slide come out on I-80 just East of Des Monies Iowa. Looked in the mirror after passing a semi and all I saw was white(the side of the slide). Let me tell you that is a little scary.

A little scary? I would think your are lucky you did not have a heart attack. So how did you take care of you slide from doing it again?

Guess I better put something on them. Sure would not want the slide to come out while going down the road.

OR even a 1 1/2" round closet pole with rubber caps on each end

Measure 3 times--cut once allowing for thickness of caps.
Should be slightly longer so seal is compressed when wedged into place

If your manual says to use the slide locks I would agree with the manual. If you do not want to pay $40 for them the cheap and easy fix would be 2x4 lumber with a patch of velcro stuck to it. A little velcro to the top or side of the slide and the 2x4 will stay in place while bouncing down the road.

I put a yellow velcro "Caution" sign on the slideout switch to remind me when the braces are locked in place on top of the retracted slide.

The other reason for using the braces is that it snuggs up the slide out to the RV...keepig rain and dust out of the RV while moving...and that does make more sense!

It happened to me in the 90's with my Fleetwood! We were camping in L.A. CA. I retracted my slide out and the slide roller went over one of those small children's books, which caused the shear pin in the slide to break which caused my slide out to retract all the way out by itself when I was going around a corner in Yosemite National Park. My wife and I were able to pull off the road and push it back in. I cut a piece of 2x4 to fit on top of the slide to stop it from rolling out anymore!

My Jayco 5er came with them. They go on top of the slideout when retracted and lock it in position. Its basically insurance in possible case of the slideout accidently deploying whilst taking a turn or curve on the freeway.

Has your slide moved going down the road. The locks may be braces that go inside that block against the inside wall. The good thing the slide will not move going down the road but the bad thing if you forget to remove them, well there goes your wall. Some of the Newmars had locks when the slide came in they would autolock and unlock when you put the slide out.
Maybe someone has a better idea on this:h
