- PamelaWExplorerThanks John S. We would like to use the scopes right out of the RV-the less transport the better!I'll check out the Foretravel!
Thanks Nightshift-we really don't want to have to lift the scope in and out the main door-always a problem-it has handles and wheels so if we could build a ramp to a storage area it would be better! - GjacExplorer IIIThere are several small Class A's that have a large storage area in the rear under the bed, Mirada, Hurricane, etc. How ever these also don't have full basement storage but the little cut out doors for storage. The only one that I know of that has both is the some models of the Daybreak. Also on short MH with slides that have storage in the slide itself this will eliminate a pass thru. If you want full pass through storage bays, the slide cannot contain the storage bays.
- nightshiftExplorerPamela, are you absolutely married to the idea of a class A? There are a few high quality Cs out there that would suit an astronomer's needs very well. The overhead bed can be used a secure storage spot for the scope. So can the rear corner bed which could be easily modified for custom storage.
- John_S_Explorer III have a question for you, Will you be taking the coach to the site you are skywatching at or will you transfer it to the tow vehicle. If so then you might want to look at some of the off road capable class C units. There are a couple that photographers use. I am going to get one for my next coach for that very reason. Waiting on the sun in the comfort of the coach with the rig set up outside getting used to the air and humidity if there is any or the cold if it is as it usually is. If not then any pass thru coach will work. I have a Foretravel and can put two mobility scooters underneath, the full sized ones. I have seen coaches that you can put a motorcycle underneath without the windscreen but it will stand up. So there are coaches that will work.

Has a large rear under bed storage, with three access doors - PamelaWExplorerThanks Keith-I think we will be looking at the Tiffin!
- tderonneExplorerThere's a few Class A's (and C's like mentioned above) that have a large under bed/bedroom storage area like the 24.1 Axis.
They can be HUGE: - gsitexasExplorerI'm in a similar situation with a 14.5" and 20" dob along with a 140mm refractor and G-11 mount. Plan to take a dob and refractor on most trips.
Currently evaluating a Tiffin 31SA class A gas motorhome (33') and a Grand Design Momentum 350M toy hauler (38'9") to determine which will best allow me to safely transport and use the telescopes.
Best regards,
Keith - PamelaWExplorerThanks vjstangelo! The operation of getting it in and out the door will be an issue-it is an 18" truss dobsonian-an outside storage would be ideal-have looked at some videos of the Thor coaches and some have up to 150 cubic feet-all the way through..now just to find one in person!
Thanks Kiwidancer and mena661 I'll check those out! - vjstangeloExplorerNice to see a fellow amateur astronomer posting. I have a TT but am getting close to purchasing a used Class A myself. I do not have a transportable Dob, as of yet anyway, but I believe that a full sized Winnebago, Thor, etc could fit the broken down assembly nicely.
Like a prior poster stated, I have a Nexstar 5 that I transport in the now empty bunkhouse. We use it like a walk-in closet.
There's an idea for you. Look for a bunkhouse model where the bunks can be moved out of the way, for example a Fleetwood Terra 31C or a Newmar Bay Star Sport 3306. The scope can reside safely in the interior space during transport.
One other thought, how about a Class C? Many folks use the overhead bunk for storage and your scope should nfit nicely there too.
Good luck.
