StoreMore Slideout System

I note that Winnebago and Itasca have this feature. The basement compartments under the slide go out with the slide, so one does not have to crawl under to access the compartments. I haven't noticed it on other makes, although I may be missing some others.

What's the trade-off here?

I suppose the compartments that slide out with the slide are not heated? Or at least not well heated?

Any other drawbacks?

These brands appeal to me, but I'm curious what I would be giving up regarding the basement storage in exchange for the slide-out convenience. Maybe other makers have not gone this route because there's no big attraction to it from the standpoint of users? Something else I've not thought of?

Help a novice, please.

Thanks!

Wayne

  • If you visit the Winnebago website and click on "Key Features" you will see that the StoreMore system is used only in the Sightseer models, the mid-level gassers. I have no idea why!
  • When I was looking, one of my requirements was that the storage compartments were not attached to the slide. I did not like putting all that weight under the slide and I wanted pass through storage.
  • Wayne, I think the main issue with 'attached' storage compartments is that you can't have pass through compartments. I keep my 6' ladder in one bay and just slide it in as we have two pass-through bays (one with a roll-out drawer).

If bending over under a slide is a problem, maybe the attached compartments might work better for you.

The attached compartments also need more room as you can hit bushes, fencing or a water spigots. That's exactly what happened to us when we rented a 2006 Fleetwood Expedition. I was opening the slide and my co-pilot was out looking for low tree branches not thinking about the water spigot. Well, the slide-out with the attached compartments pushed the spigot back and broke it off. We had quite a flood; we never thought to look down. The parks water had to be turned off for half the park for 45 minutes. We pulled the drapes and made martini's as we so embarrassed. The park manager was so nice about as it was a true accident.

With our current coach, I have many times opened our slides over bushes, low poles, etc. That would not work with attached compartments.

    Just a thought.

  • The biggest drawback I find is we loose about 20% of the storage space because the floor of the slide-out tray is up about 3 to 4 inches.
Also I'm with Tom-I have a tendency to overload the two slide-out trays I have because it is so easy to get to.
  • Lack-O-Space is only drawback I can see. My belly compartments are full. I can not imagine any lass space........

  • The BIG drawback is adding weight to the slide out.

I carry my tools, hoses, electrical cords, parts, spare sat dish, etc in mine. I should be carrying feather pillows and bedding.
  • My 2011 Vista 26P does not have this feature, My dads 2004 Itasca does. It is a PITA to get to the compartments under the slide out in our Vista. I think it costs more for the slide out hardware as it needs to move/support the extra weight in the slideout and that is why some models do not have it. As far as heating, my Vista and Dads RV are not heated/insullated.
  • I had it on my last Winny. I liked it. Was no need fir heated compartments. Nothing ikept in there was going to freeze. Only draw back I saw was no pass through compartment from side to side.
Which I hah the sore more on this MH.

Utility compartment was heated and so was fresh water.
