Synthetic oil changes

For the past 45 years I have used regular oil in everything,

Then why change now just because someone says you should?

Regular oil is better formulated than it ever was. Synthetic oil may give you that "extra edge" but does your engine really require or need it? What will you gain from the additional expense?

Yes.

Before you fret over this too much, check your owner's manual or the oil fill cap for the recommended weight of oil.

If it starts with 0W or 5W then you pretty much have to use synthetic because "conventional" oil doesn't come in those weights.

As with every engine...USE WHAT THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS. They know more about what is needed then anyone else.

Mobil oil has some oil rated for up to 10,000 miles with using their oil filter, however a 2014 is still under Fords warranty and you might want to do what they want till warranty is expired, if you throw a rod and had oil in there from 7000 miles ago they will use this to void your warranty and you will be stuck with the bill..

Last two changes, really unneeded but done at same time as engine oil change etc was with Royal Purple oil full real synthetic.
I'm having a hard time filtering through the advertising and so put out about the different oils. The dyno synthetics such as most Mobile One and Catol and so on are just dyno oil more refined. Red Line is full ester based synthetic as are a number of European spec oils for Porsche and so on.
Some posted a link and sources for a number of real full synthetics some time ago. The Royal Purple in the generator, well, the filter when changed was not very dirty neither was the oil something not accustomed to in any diesel. And it is slicker than snail snot.
One week, I will sit down and try to find a real comparison chart and tests and not puffing and false claims by Oil companies.

In my Winnebago and my Honda CRV I change oil every 7,500 miles.

That 2014 should have an oil life monitor and Ford says to follow it for changes, bet that motor has synthetic in it already from the factory my o6 5.4 did and that's all they recommended for it in the owners manual.

At a seminar I attended recently, it was recommended to follow the mileage intervals in the owners manual..........or at least once a year, which ever comes first. It was explained that the yearly change is needed because elements in the filters might start breaking down. Take it for what it's worth.

For our 2016 V10, Ford recommends their synthetic blend, so that's what I use.

My 1972 Detroit manuals gives me 100,000 miles (with some testing between) between oil changes.
Synthetics did not exist in 1972. At least not on private market.
And yes, I use synthetic in my lawnmower, but out of convenience, not necessity.
