I had quart of oil I cared in my Motorhome as a spare. When I went to add it noticed going down screened funnel very slow when I got to end saw some kind of gelled substance on bottom? I am not sue how long I had it in my side compartment. Never opened container should I change my oil now and what would have caused this? FULL SYNTHETIC SAE 5W-30 SUPER TECH MOTOR OILr0n....:(

I had a quart of "synthetic", don't remember the brand, and used it in my truck. As it came out there was a glob, at the end. I had it for at least ten years.Not many "synthetics" are true synthetics now. They are just more highly refined dyno oil.true Synthetics are available but not widely stocked, here, in the states.I use Mobil One but soon as I get a little more urge I'm going to locate a true synthetic for the little Mercedes, at least.The Ester based synthetics are way more stabile and slicker than owl ----.When they first came out I ran it in a Plymouth with a 440. I had to tighten and replace gaskets on the engine as it seeped through everywhere. It did help power and it cleaned up the engine better thaan kerosene, not that it wasn't spotlessly maintained.

for Mobil 1 the shelf life for a un open container is 5 years.

Your engine and peace of mind is surely worth more than that!

Technically, I think you are wrong. I've got a car that is factory filled with Mobil 1 also, BUT the manual provides a spec that several other synthetic oils meet. Mobil has just cut an advertising deal with some manufacturers that gets their oil in as factory fill and even the Mobil 1 logo on the oil fill caps sometimes.

GM requires dexos certified oil to meet warranty requirements. Dexos is a GM specification not an oil or automotive industry spec. Mobil 1 does meet the spec as well as some other oils. Other auto manufacturers no doubt have their own requirements regarding oil.

Think Lobstah is talking about the synthetic requirement. Just take a look at the VW/Audi 505, 506, and 507 requirements. Same with Mercedes BlueTec requirements. All call for very specific synthetic oil lubes. And in the case of the VW PD engines, many dealers found out the hard way that they had to follow VW's oil requirements like it or not.

427435 has the straight scoop.
And auto maker can fill and ship their car with a syn oil and even tell you what brand and weight it came with...and definately tell you what weight you need to use in the future BUT they CANNOT tell you what BRAND of oil you have to use....because if they do that they are required BY LAW to supply you with it!

When my Mercedes was new, the oil changes came free for the first 50k miles. Factory spec was Mobil 1 and every free service I got was itemized with dino oil instead. Service mgr said it was all the factory would pay for. Car is now 14 years old, gets oil changed once a year and engine runs like new.

I had a squeaky bathroom door. The only oil I had was Amsoil so I placed a few drops on each hinge. I no longer have a squeaky bathroom door. I would use it on my MIL's out house door if necessary and feel good about it.

Dont use ANY syn oil in it. You arent working it under conditions that actually warrant syn oil. A top grade "dinosaur fat squeezings" will do you fine. 5W-30 or 10W-40 depending on the time of year you really work that coach "hard"

Hello dude. No...they want me to move on but I keep resisting...:B Dont switch oils then. Buy a good brand of syn oil and install it along with a good filter and just keep it that way. If you an average milage driver it will keep you running A-OK.

The Mobil 1 Delvac 1 is a group IV synthetic PAO motor oil. But with any Euro diesel (VW, Audi, BMW, and MB, I would stick with the oils required by the manufacturer. Check at World Impex, as they carry many of them.
