The end all thread on class A gas mpg with v10

Following will be the last thread that you will ever need to read on fuel mileage for 2007+ Ford f53 v10 gas motorhomes in the 20 to 22k weight range. No toad.

I have a 2008 Georgetown ds350. My prior RV was a 2001 f350 dually with 7.3l and a 40' toy hauler. I averaged about 8 mpg. 6.5 mpg in mountain conditions.

With the motorhome I have already found that driving hwy 26 from Portland to Cannon Beach round trip we got 4.5 mpg. Wrote. Awful. But, that drive involves crossing the visual mountain range. I also burned a lot of generator fuel.

On a trip right now. I'll post mpg.

  • I am betting that the title is wrong. There will be more V10 MPG topics to read. Just like the hundreds before this one.

Now onto the Last Walmart Camping topic.

BTW, I don't monitor it constant but we avg about 7MPG.
  • Worst I ever encountered was when I mistakenly attemped an I495 loop around DC on a Friday afternoon. Got stuck in 30 miles bumper to bumper traffic. Burn rate was something in the low fives, high fours by the time the day was done.
  • I have a V10 Ford in my 36' motorhome and get a consistent 14.5 miles to the gallon.................

........Is something no one ever said.
  • I find by using the cruse control i get the best mpg,BUT on the other hand I didnt buy my MH for great gas mpg.I bought it to go when i want, stop when i want, sleep where i want and just have a great lifestyle, so if i just get 5mpg all the time i don't CARE.
  • Another update:
Today drove from Portland to Ashland, Oregon. 299 miles, approx 32 gallons, calculated to 9.25 mpg. Not bad! Rolling hills. Some climbing. No wind. Tried to keep speed at 57 mph. On bigger hills I let the speed drop to 45 to 50 mph.
  • I don't bother to figure out my "fuel economy", even though I maintain a log book of every fill, and the odometer reading when it occurred. It would be quite easy to compute the MPG between fills, or even the average MPG since we bought the rig.
But, IMO, why bother. I know that "fuel economy" and "motorhome" are mutually exclusive terms, and should not even be used in the same sentence!
It gets terrible gas mileage. That's just the way it is. I do not need, nor do I want, the exact numbers.
  • Mine does 7 mpg at 70 mph on straight, flat interstates with no toad. In the hills not as good.
  • I have a 2015 challenger V10 and I average a little over 8 mpg. I keep my rpms as low as possible in overdrive. I usually run 62 on interstates, it seems to be my sweet spot for the rpm. Mountains are considerably worst for mpg but anyone should expect that.
