Go look at the guys with the 3.5 ecoboost...does great with an empty truck but load it and it does about the same as the V8.
Why? It takes fuel to develop power and when putting out a significant percentage of rated power, engines have been optimized for a long time...not a lot of improvement available. - TerryallanExplorer IIFuel mileage, and RVing do NOT belong in the same sentence. Gonna play. you got to pay.
- Bruce_BrownModeratorI'm not even a little surprised. BTUs are BTUs. Big trucks with big engines use a lot of fuel, nothing new there. The real test will be how well does it do in MH duty. My guess is it will be a real nice improvement.
- LwiddisExplorer IIThose who want the big horses will pay the big fuel bills. I’m not surprised. I didn’t buy three GM 454-455s back in the day for economical reasons.
- T18skyguyExplorerYea Tim, I would of thought that 10 speed tranny would of made some difference, but like they said they couldn't get into max overdrive with that load. I'd like to see a test with a more realistic load. The other issue is they lost a little power and mpg by going back to port injection. There have been serious issues with direct injection. I think I'll keep my diesel. Don
