Thinking of removing Hydraulic levelers.

2007 Itasca Sunova 27'. LEVELERS BAH!!!! AM tired of messing with a failed Hyd sys. Kwikee System taken over by Lippert. On vacation last Spring RT Rear leveler began decending on its own while traveling on the Highway. Lights & Bells ~ Stop!!! hit raise jacks all went back up ~ for about 70 miles. Limped along for a while to primary Vacation spot. AS was under extended warranty wanted our regular repair shop to checkit out. BIG bungees ~ check leveler every 50 mi ~ Home OK. THAT was in June. Shop had to check with mfg. then ins. no longer made had to build. Ok 6 wks Did not cure. Mfg said try this ~ Then that 2 more jacks to build & replace ~~ OOps that did not work. Mfg must be 2 way valve ~ Approved day before extended warranty went out. Shop finally found proper valve ~ OUR $$$ ~but must by 4 of them. Closed for Holidays ~~ Shop called today Levelers are "frozen". Will go thru system again maybe one of new levelers no good.

Note!! other than that may be the HYD Pump -our $$$ --. I am worn out with it~~ Any one just remove levelers & go back to blocks.?? Old Classs C saw a lot of camping with Boards&Blocks. Am afraid to drive it with the levelers decending unannounced.

Thanks for letting me vent.
  • Appears your shop is doing more guessing than trouble shooting. The legs on your system just travel up and down with hydraulic pressure. If they aren't leaking or bent they were good. If the 2 way valve leaks through, that could be the problem.

A good hydraulic repair shop probably could have rebuilt any of your parts in less time with less cost. Removing the levelers is probably something you will soon regret. Trying to level on wheel blocks probably isn't much fun.
  • MR Wizard ~ Thanks for reply. No springs on system. They are not moving eithr way right now. Started with rt rear jack decending on its own while traveleng. Also would 'sink' a little when parked for a while. At almost 80 not looking for a new DIY mechanical project and am afraid of them like they are.

Shop guy says he can remove the legs & disconnect ~ cap off the fluids. Gratis just to get it out of his shop ~~~ Still thinking ~~JM2¢
  • No springs ?

Hyd down and Hyd Up ?

can you change the 'pad feet' and attach springs for retract or at least to HOLD them up ?

you can certainly remove the system if you want too, and possibly even sell it for parts ?

but i know i would be looking DIY 'yankee' make it work Fix
