Sorry - not accurate. We've had aluminum (Itasca) on a mH for 18 years - always parked outside - with no maintenance required - ever! More recently a Winnebago with fiberglass roof - 7 years and again no maintenance. Have a commercial building with a TPO roof and continual maintenance required. Personally reject any unit with the TPO roof.

I doubt we will get a new coach for various reasons, cost being the obvious plus everything I've heard just steers me away at this point. I found a 2011 Coachmen Encounter on the Internet that looks very interesting but again price will certainly be a factor. Actually found what appeared to be the same coach but a 2013 in North Carolina and Ohio but the price was $11,000 different. Anybody have any ideas on that?

My husband laughingly told me last night how long it would take us to drive, yes drive, to Texas to look at homes down there and then how long to get back. He is not retired yet so don't know when he'd fit that in. Christmas perhaps? Don't think so! Plus that would mean our first trip would be from Texas to NC. Even I know that wouldn't be a very good idea.

Will do some more research this week and more looking next week (going to a Tiffin dealer plus some others) between children popping in for the holiday and watching NC State most likely lose yet another football game.

Decided against Thor products in making our last purchase because of too many obvious quality issues when looking at units on dealer's lots. Currently have a 2013 Tiffin - prior to that our most recent units were Winnebago - both Winnebago and Itasca - and thought them both very good motor homes. Suggest you simply compare specs - the Hurricane is on the 18,000# Ford - the Tiffin on the 22,000# Ford. Tiffin has the fiberglass roof - Thor the TPO. Look further and you'll find Tiffin has many more standard features - some optional on the Thor but many not even available on the Thor.

No worries but I will also admit the horror stories about Thor products can be a bit more hair raising then other builders. I'm the second owner of my coach and I never met the former owners were so I don't know how much pain they had. Factory fresh rigs and first time owners can sometimes be a poor match.

For Gauke, I would have a bit of apprehension recommend a new coach from any manufacturer. A two or three year old is easier on the budget along with the first owner dealing with the post delivery repairs. Also your closest Tiffin dealer in NC is in Mocksville. Campers Inn. Tiffin is on my short list for the next coach. Just need to save a bit more then I had to for the Hurricane.

There are several Tiffin dealers in NC. I suggest you visit the Tiffin website - Tiffin Motorhomes for detailed coach information and Tiffin RV Network for owner information.

Tiffin builds its gas powered coaches on the longer wheelbase Ford chassis much means they ride and handle better than most. Also, the larger models are on 24,000 lb chassis.

The quote above reminds me of a story that went around during the early sixties about one of our south Texas ranchers, that after owning a series of Cadillac's over the years decided to buy a Rolls Royce. After a few days of driving it, he was so impressed that he wrote a letter to the president of Rolls stating the various attributes of the auto. He concluded his letter stating that at 60 miles per hour all he could hear was the soft, gentle ticking of the dash board clock. My apologies to those I offended with my statement on Thor. The above quote is so true and I'm willing to admit that I might be being a hard on Thor, especially since I'm reviewing the purchase, the factory damage, both in slide,body and coach, that was allowed to pass through their "quality" control, in hind sight. I just expected better. Actually, I'm far more irritated with myself for getting in too big a hurry and not seeing the damage. Good case of "the hurrier I go, the behinder I get and that's the price ya' pay".

One more outing in two weeks during Thanksgiving and we will close out our third year with our 2006 Hurricane 32D. 117 nights and 18,000 miles we've traveled since departing the dealer's lot. Great coach and I would buy another. I've had some minor items I've easily fixed myself but nothing that has either forced us home early or that needed to be taken in for service.

Some may have had a bad experience the a Hurricane series coach or a Thor product. Hang around this forum long enough you will read a horror story concerning just about every builder who ever produced a coach. My Hurricane will never be the Waldorf Astoria On Wheels but it fits my wants, needs, desires and budget. Gook luck with your purchase.

Why don't you also take a look at Tiffin Allegro Open Roads. Better built with lots of standard features that the others charge you extra for. Tiffin's support is legendary. Anything you want to know about a particular model, you can go to tiffinrvnetworks.com and post a question about. You will get the good, bad, and ugly about any coach they build. I've owned two of them and they have been excellent.
