pnichols - as Tigers are much older than Earthroamers, you might say that an Earthroamer is an oversized Tiger. :)
Current design is to not use a generator to save weight, space, cost, and noise. Although Handbasket on this forum has done a lot of good work on noise control, it is hard to control the irritating sound of a one or two cylinder engine. In contrast, the vehicle's prime mover is very quiet and has a much lower pitched sound.
The new Malayan line offers several very nice upgrades over the Bengal line:
-- All aluminum, four season camper with insulated roof and floor.
-- Larger, insulated windows with integrated sun screens and fly screens. Specifically, much larger windows in the bed area.
-- Flat roof with room for storage and, depending on the model 400 to 500 watts of solar. (And probably more.)
-- Many of the items that were extras on the Bengal are now standard, for example, the handle by the door, the upgraded TV antenna.
-- Most important of all, the Malayan has no converter, but rather a real inverter/charger.
-- Much larger battery bank, fully accessible.
-- New style awning that does not require supports.
-- No black tank - choice of cassette or composting toilet. (One look at an RV dump site and you will love this.)
-- Consolidated control panel over the door.
And several others. See pictures here:
Facebook LinkOn either a Bengal or a Malayan, there is a new option for a two door cabinet behind the driver's seat. Room inside for coats, camera bags, whatever. Room on top for jackets, hats, etc. Normal access from the outside is by opening the back door of the cab, from the inside by opening a normal cabinet door.
The bottom line is that Tiger makes some great vehicles that are all too often overlooked. Until, of course, you try to find a used one, then they are gone in days!
