Tile Floors and Cold Weather

Since all new coaches seem to use tile for flooring and many don't seem to use underfloor heat, what do you do to keep your feet warm?Nothing worse than walking on a cold tile floor. Do the electric optional heat pads seem to work?
  • Don't be confused, stone and tile floors are very cold, even in cool weather, when compared to walking on carpet. We do a good deal of cold weather travel and all the interior heat in the world does not make the floors comfortable (less cold at best). Luckily, we only have tile floors in the kitchen with carpet throughout the rest so we only have to keep one rug large enough so we can take a long step from the bedroom and then another long step from the run to the living room to avoid bare feet on that part of the floor.
  • With our unit, the basement heat will help somewhat with the cold floor issue when the furnace is running, I can notice a difference on the tiles. Other then that it's throw rugs and slippers.
  • Why don't they put heat under them? Tile is a very uncomfortable surface to be on when it is not warm. No one would put tile in their home without heat under it in a cold climate.
  • My floors are very cold. So I use throw rugs as like others.

  • Like Mark, we just put throw rugs on the floor in our coach. They're washable and inexpensive, and no cold floors in the wintertime.

Many people use throw-rugs or scatter rugs that are easily shaken out every few days. Others like myself wear those heavy "footies" sold everywhere. I personally don't like tile floors but it's not worth the effort and cost of removing them from our Southwind.
  • We removed the carpet in the living area of the coach and installed vinyl tile. We use a rug on the floor whish is as much for our dog as it is for us. Also remember if it is cold you are probably running a furnace and the furnace heats the basement righg under the livinv area, as well as the living area. It has just never been a problem.
  • In our previous Dynasty with tile floors (non-heated), we put down several throw rugs and I had a small electric heater to maintain temp. It kept the floors from getting too cold. Since the bays are a 'buffer' to the outside temps, it was not bad.

  • While we normally avoid cold weather....below freezing, that can't always be the case.

So far cold tile hasn't been an issue for me and my wife just wears slippers but I've never heard her comment about being uncomfortable. I suspect that the Aqua Hot heater ducts being located a floor lever help minimize any discomfort and since the bays never really get cold that also may help.

Honestly, this is an issue that has never surfaced.
