The vehicle had to be moving at a high speed to smash through the cable barrier. If it were creeping along, the barrier should have held.
It is kind of everyone to say the operator was not speeding, but my observation errs on the side what I've seen in real life, getting passed all the time by rigs just like that, as if I were standing still while traveling 60mph.
Speed limit = 75, so I do 75. Tires are rated for it, TOAD is capable of it. It is legal. We are fools if we believe it will be less of an impact at 65 vs 75. Still 40k you have to stop.
All vehicles, including the MH blowout, did what they had to do to avoid catastrophe. Great job by all.

Reminds me of the fellow that parked next to me at the Cracker Barrel on I-26 Exit 145 back on 3/23/2003. 40' DP with 15 feet of the front driver's side held together with duct tape. I asked him what happened. He told me he blew the left front tire doing 85mph.

I do not believe so. Opinion. Yours.

He may have had the vehicle in partial control, considering the cables barrier and the grass terrain so he just coasted to a stop rather than to upset the balance by applying the brakes. He may also have been applying some throttle to maintain what control he had over the vehicle. In any case, the final outcome was as good as anyone could have done given the circumstances.

its obvious there in the left lane but hardly hauling a$$ he does not appear to be going any faster than the other traffic and certainly does not appear to me as hes going more than 65?
certainly does not appear to me he was doing anything wrong?
It's difficult to tell how fast he was going, but it didn't seem excessive. It sure took him a long time to stop though. - usersmanualExplorer

certainly does not appear to me he was doing anything wrong? - slickest1ExplorerIf people stopped and thought about how much weight they are driving down the road and how far it takes to stop that weight at even 60 mph they would keep their speed in check. Some seem to think they can get in and drive it like their car and often the result is bad.
If he was driving his car and blew a tire would the same thing happen? - Cloud_DancerExplorer IIYou have 1 to 2 seconds to grip hard and STEER/turn against the yaw. You gotta stay AWAY FROM THE GRASS. THEN, the next two steps are almost as critical. Obviously, not many of us are ready for a front tire blowout.
- TinstarExplorerThe driver may have had the misconception that he should not hit his brakes and just coasted to a stop. I also never see his brake lights come on but it's kinda hard to tell from the video.
- mtofell1ExplorerHard to say but it sure looked like he was going faster than a lot of traffic. The only real way to judge was how fast the oncoming cars were flying by the other direction before the crash. Also, as others have noted, how long it took to come to a stop. I'd think once he hit the grass it would have slowed down much more quickly. I'd sure love to know tire age and speed at the time of blowout to make me feel better (or worse) about my chances.
