Toad Light Mystery

After working perfectly for several years, my toad signal lights refuse to light. I rewired with an all new cable, still no work. Here's the mystery; I have signal at every point on my cable and, when I connect my toad to my other car (using the very same cable) everything works perfectly. I have tried everything I know and no success. Any ideas or suggestions would be surely appreciated.

  • Often, the ground goes bad. If you connected your toad without the tow bar and your ground in the umbilical cord is bad, your lights won't work. You can do a quick check by taking one side of a battery jumper cable and connecting it to a good ground on the toad and one on the RV. If the lights work, you will have narrowed down to the ground in your umbilical cord.
  • Check all your grounds. I have found that almost every mysterious electrical problem like this is related to a bad ground. If that doesn't fix it, then that is the limit of my electrical knowledge.
  • By confirming that all works OK when plugged into a 2nd car, you've pretty much eliminated anything wrong with the wiring from the coach. The problem must be in the receptacle on your toad. Possible corroded or broken pins/sockets?
