jswat,
Ok, just wondering a few things here. If I interpret your description correctly, when you connect your toad, to the BACK OF ANOTHER CARs 7-pin connector, and then send signals from that secondary car, your toads tail lights have ALL FUNCTIONS, correct?
But, when you hook your toad up to your coach, you have running lights but, no brake and turn, for each side, correct?
May I ask, if you put a test light to each and every terminal (pin) in your 7-pin trailer plug, do you get all the correct signals coming from each of those pins? That is:
1. Tail/marker
2. Rt turn/brake
3. Lf turn/brake
4. Ground
Now, if your 7-pin trailer connector is functioning correctly on all the pins, and, your toads tail lights are functioning correctly when hooked to another tow car, I'm suspecting your problem is in the 7-pin plug itself. I had that same EXACT PROBLEM with a friends toad one day when I got done wiring his Jeep for towing. Since he didn't have his motor home at our house for us to hook up to, to test all his newly wired lights, I just backed my truck up to the front of his Jeep. I borrowed my pig tail from my coach and plugged my truck into his Jeep.
NO BRAKE AND TURN SIGNALS!!!!!!!!!! But, I had running lights. What it turned out to be, after a hour of research, was the fact that the female tangs inside one of the plugs, had separated just enough that, there was no contact with the male counterparts from the pig tail for both sides. Talk about a strange event. But, we got it figured out and all was well.
Also, may I ask, are you utilizing the stock tail light bulbs in the toad, for toad lights when hooked up to the coach? Or have you installed alternate bulbs in the tail light housings?
