once it comes off of high idle, its around 5-600. I found a bad vacuum line tonight which tees off to the mod valve on the trans, clipped it back to some good rubber and put it back on, seems much better now, thanks for the vacuum tip. Actually all the vacuum hoses will need replacing, they are really starting to dry rot
What is your idle speed? A high idle will cause that also. - bsinmichExplorerWhat is your idle speed? A high idle will cause that also.
- jplante4Explorer III'd have the u-joints checked.
- Deano56Explorer IIsorry folks, this is a gasser with a turbo 400, shifts fine from gear to gear. From park to reverse or drive it goes into that gear fast and hard

how would the linkage have anything to do with this? I am thinking about the vacuum too
If it has a modulator, check the vacuum line to it.
also check the kick down linkage or cable.
it depends on the transmission, some with a kickdown cable , the cable sets the pump pressure off throttle position. on some, if it's set wrong it can burn the transmission up. I don't remember you saying what you have. - AvaExplorerIf it is a diesel with an Allison trans the linkage and trans cable can cause hard shifts. The slack in the system makes the engine and trans brains confused. I have had this problem and this was the fix. Cheers Doug
