Since you said it comes and goes, and all the other ignition activated items are working try checking for a bad ground connection at your transmission control module.

    Dave
  • then find the transmission control box
someone with a monaco, can tell you where to look
and then find the power control wire
    that where i would start
  • Mr wizard, I read that on another site but mine doesn't have it by the battery. I followed the red leads from the battery back to the main harness and no connections anywhere.
  • OUr 95 Safari, has a fused wire attached at the chassis battery bank
Found that one by accident when installing new batteries
Didn't connect it and the pad wouldn't light
Sounds like you have a bad connection on the same wire,
But IDK where Manaco wired it
  • Awesome thanks. Yes everything functions normally on the dash and all instruments.
  • Let's rule out the IGNITION SOLENOID. Turn the key on. Do the rest of the dash warning lights illuminate? Does the dash HVAC fan operate (or any other item that only operates with the ignition on. If not, suspect the ignition solenoid. If not, move on.

  • When I turn the key on, the key pad doesn't lite up so the neutral safety switch doesn't allow it to start. I jumper across the starter solenoid jut to make sure it wasn't a battery issue. It looks like the trans just doesn't have power. Sometimes it does and works fine, then all of a sudden , stops working again......

I have no idea how all the wires are run or where the trans gets it's power from....
  • If I understand correct you have a bad ignition solenoid. Are you sure that solenoid doesn't supply power to the Allison pad as well as the rest of the dash?
