Update on RV repair issues!
Well here is an update on my repairs. Coach( 2001 Beaver with a CAT 3126B diesel) in CAT service center last day of August. Having minor issues taken care of. I did tell them they could take their time on it but I had to have it back by November 1st the very latest.
All I was planning to have done was:
serpentine belt
water pump belt
look dash a/c system and see what it will take to fix
thermostats(2) replace
items found during inspection:
rear wheel seals leaking - need replacing
engine fan blade cracked - needs replacing
a/c compressor bad - needs replacing
a/c servicing port leaks (2) high and low - replace
a/c low side hose leak - replace section of hose
Items replaced:
rear wheel seals
serpentine belt
water pump belt
a/c compressor
a/c receiver dryer
(2) engine thermostats
a/c service ports(2)
section of a/c low side hose
engine fan assembly( I ordered and took to them! (they couldn't locate one)
These items were all replaced but not done until November 18th. Delay after delay.
Shop Foreman took coach for test run...18th...overheated right away(225)
Told it was a radiator issue! Started to remove radiator and found insulation debris forward of radiator from engine area that had fallen....took it out and he stated 95% sure the problem....reinstalled the loose radiator, test drove again. Now runs at 217 degrees(still too hot! Wants to do further checks....now ran at 200 degrees prior to thanksgiving. The Monday after he drives again and now 217 and hot! Now they pulled out radiator, CAC, and removed the thermostats again. Said the radiator needs to go to shop, clogged fins.
Radiator shop pressure checked it 12-4...its not clogged up and ok, not the cause of overheat issue. Going to clean it and also I took the CAC and he is cleaning and leak checking that too. Should be ready 12-8 or 12-9!
The CAT shop is going to test the thermostats for proper opening visually now...after me asking that question after the first 225 condition. Been out twice since!
Had to cancel Thanksgiving trip. Now have a trip for December 19th-29th We will more than likely have to cancel.
They don't have access to 50 amp service for battery charging they just told me two days ago, so batteries have been charged each time enough to start engine.....so I went and bought an adapter so they can leave coach plugged in to charge them.
A new service manager has just started there and this is the first big issue .....I had heard good things about their service, but now I see a lack of communication, poor scheduling issues, and lack of concern for completion in a reasonable time.
They still don't know what the overheat issue is as it didn't have one prior to going there. I have driven the coach over 11000 miles in four years with no issues.
It may be AG complaint and attorney time very soon!
