Used class A pricing

I only know enough about rv's to be dangerous to myself,and I can admit that.Thats what drives me toward newer.

Newness isn't the answer. It's quality and engineering. Doesn't help much, to keep putting lipstick on a pig.
Buy it for the right price and once you get the rest right, you'll be fine and good to go.

Ummm...your riding a Prevost.Not sure what that thing cost in its day,but your probably good for another 20yrs.Obviously systems still need to be replaced,but those are great rigs.

My pre-retirement occupation was superintendent of electrical construction of large data center projects.Being apart of commissioning backup systems and chiller systems of all types probably will give me an edge of learning the rv systems.
Thank you all for your input, it sounds like I should not be afraid of older models, using due diligence of course.

I'm thinking that under NADA low retail, is what most of them end up with and no matter how they do it. Especially with so many Buyer's wanting loans and banks balking at the borrower's loan request. Those still making payments of their own, sometimes face reality and pay off the difference, when someone finally comes along with cash and no BS....

Many high rollers, are really high debt seekers. They can't pay cash so they have to buy new. For maintenance, they'll do the easy stuff like oil changes, but can't afford the more costly things that will go unnoticed by the general public when they sell.

So to the OP, Class A's are alot like condo's. All the bling is in the very beginning, and sooner or later someone is going to take the bath on their investment when the little boy says "the emperior has no clothes." Trick is too be the person not taking the bath. Either buy new and sell early, or buy further down the stream.

Not sure where to begin here but if the trick is to be the person NOT taking the bath, you would NEVER be a buyer of a new coach. Referring to Class A buyers as high rollers (high debtors) is such a stereotype of a minor sector of buyers as to be a scenario that should be dismissed.

Ya know it and in my whole life, which has been a while now, I've only bought one new vehicle. The excuse was, that my good friend and dealer let me have the first new 86 Jeep Comanche in town at his cost. I was ready for another truck and wanted this one, which they hadn't made previously, so decided to go for it. Still shouldn't have done it and with waiting another couple of years, I could have gotten one, a year old, with a much better engine. Oh well, no biggie, except for breaking my pattern and for violating one of my own laws.
I did keep that truck for 19yrs. however and until it was almost a classic, so..........:)

I don't know why you would say never buy new.What if someone really commits to full timing(which I am not)and keeps it say 12 years.Is that a bad deal? What is the cutoff line? I realize probably 80 percent of people wouldn't,but there has to be a line in the sand.
For myself? I think finding a two or three year old is right.I do like some of the new safety features of the modern coachs,adaptive cruise,lane departure warning,etc.Its one of the reasons both our autos get upgraded every few years.Anything that takes a bit of stress of driving and added safety is big on my list,even though it comes at a cost.

My wife and I generally purchased new. However, with the way prices escalated just prior to the Great Recession (I think the DP I bought new in 2001 with an MSRP of $190K was something closer to $300K in 2008)and never seemed to go back down, when we started shopping for a DP in 2016 we went used. I shopped the U.S. via many websites. We ended up buying 1600 miles away, but the money saved was absolutely huge and worth the 3200 mile round trip. Most coaches we were interested in were using NADA pricing, but there were also a number of good coaches out there priced far more competitively to choose from and then negotiate even further. On this big of a purchase, shop the U.S. market.

For us, since a Winnebago Journey was one of our top choices, and what we ended up purchasing, we're inside 200 miles of Winnebago and HWH, and Freightliner/Cat/Allison is everywhere, so the major systems all had good service options within easy reach of us even though the coach purchase was far away.

With a post made, just the other day, one member said that he'd burn it to the ground before he'd sell it for less. So, there ya go and just another way, for combating the problem at hand.
My advice is to buy it right, really right,. in fact and put the warranty money in the bank, the older the tires, the better for bargaining...etc...etc. Thing is with tires, it's always nice for starting out new and knowing were they have been and especially if someone else is paying for them, like the seller. For many, peace of mind comes in a tool box, but your mileage might vary, as they say.
New rig warranties, involving your dealer, have to be the biggest PITA there is and not like you can drive in there, tomorrow morning and be back home with it in the same afternoon. Just read all the horror stories and how many there are, before you find one that rings positive.

I traveled 1300 miles for mine and paid pennies on the dollar from original price.
