Utilization measure for class a use

Struggling with the point of the post. In your job you looked to leverage competitive advantages to yield higher performance (you didn't say if this was tactile performance or fiscal or both by proxy). I think most business models run this way. I am not sure how this correlates to cost of MH ownership by day and it's fluctuation by changing MH's. Nothing cost effective about MH ownership at all. It's all loss mitigation. Buy newer, cost of ownership goes up, primarily due to depreciation. Staying in your current rig, the loss curve flattens out as depreciation declines year over year. But there really is no analysis that can be done on a competitive advantage to yield "more" anything out of an RV sans throwing more money at it, or liquidating. Maybe I missed something.

It would be too depressing and we are having fun traveling all over the country

+1 Owning a motor home is neither a corporation nor a profitable operation. What are you comparing your cost to? If you are measuring your RV to the performance of another Rv to find out which one is more cost effective, then you may have something. If you are just trying to prove that owning a motor home is expensive, there are much easier ways of doing it, just look at your bank account.

What do the numbers say? Well, what do your WANT them to say?

My numbers say that what I save in motel and restaurant costs, multiplied by my arbitrary comfort factor makes my Class A a great investment.

I agree with the CPA here. Unless you spend many months each year living in your motorhome, it is one of the worst investments you can make. For the vast majority of us it would be much cheaper to just stay in hotels if we want to travel. But that isn't the point of RVing. It's a toy, not an investment.

After we made our first and less than successful excursion with our current coach, I elected to put it to use in our boat work business. I did the tax work back by keeping two logs with the help of telephone and GPS trackers for mileage and the business log for days in use. Until the abrogation and the resulting depression, it was easy. I never got any time off and the coach was only used for business. Then, when the depression set in in 2010, I got a "vacation". That year, I split the mileage costs by the business/pleasure ratio. I split the total maintenance costs by days in uses also business/pleasure. I directly attributed the business only expenses like the printer-scanner and its little inverter, the fixed fire suppression system demanded my the insurance and the cell phone repeater. I had a lot of very long talks with a number of auditors. They thought that they won. What they did not know was that some things were just amortized in the next year.

It was all a lost cause anyway, because with the depression deepening and sailboat racing being a completely discretionary expense, the business dried up and by 2014 it was not able to pay the cellphone bill and has now been completely closed up.

Kind of reminds me of a sporty cars I bought. We kept the MPG meter displayed on the dash until one day I realized we were taking all the fun out of owning it.
Turned off that option and haven't checked it since.

If I ever looked at my motor home purchase (any of them) with such scrutiny I would be compelled to gouge my eyes out. So I don't do that. Instead DW and I sit down and look at the picture albums of our travels. I then feel like it's the best money we have ever spent!

The longer we've owned motorhomes, the more time we've spent living in them, so I suppose we're somewhat on the positive side of a negative ledger by now. But the bottom line for us has never been the dollars, rather it's the enjoyment we get from the lifestyle. And that's priceless...

I use to own a boat.....cost me $200 every time I hitched it up

I now own a 5th wheel......I didn't even do the math nor to I want to know

When it comes time to buy another toy I will just buy it....w/o doing any cost/benefit ratio tally
