Can anyone tell me for sure year Ford came with the higher horsepower engine. I think 07 or 08.

- Here's something I have been pondering, I have the 275hp version and it ain't so bad but what if I were to buy a set of 3 valve heads and install them? I gotta wonder what else is needed for a boost in hp....

You can swap in the 310 HP "P.I." heads. You cannot swap in the 3-valve heads. Too much is different. It would be easier to add a turbo two.carringb wrote:

Do you know for sure, that all Ford did was change out the heads to up the output. Just asking & wondering if maybe any other part of the engine was changed.
Neil- Pistons are different also. PCM and calibration too. Not just a head change.

Just guessing probably $3000~$5000 & then just about the same amount for labor by the time its back on the road.
Best thing to do if somebody was looking for an upgrade like that, check out Coparts.com & find one that had a Norcold fridge fire & switch everything out & salvage yard what is left.
Neil- Ford does not sell a complete crate motor. The offer a long block which will require an intake, Fuel rail, Injectors & Throttle body. The 3 valve engine uses Drive by Wire; which means new wiring, PCM and gas pedal assembly.
Not a cheap bolt in swap at all. - That's why I was thinking heads only as that could be done without removing the motor(at least on mine). Pulling the block would be a nightmare.
- Everything these days is made like that Mike. Just about a nightmare to change out a drive belt.
Be nice, if we had some of the old 70s~80s stuff come back out with improvements & get away from this robot mess.
Neil - With the 3 valve head and the higher horsepower you also got the 5 speed automatic instead of the 4 speed automatic.
