V10 Starting Problem

I really have two questions. When using the auto disconnect, should you be able to insert the key in the ignition and start the engine without turning the main battery auto disconnect off? I can. Is that a problem?

Several times I have gone to start the engine and when I turn the key on, I get a click. Not at the solonoid, but somewhere under the hood. If I keep trying, it will usuallly start after two or three tries. I have replaced the starter solonoid relay and the starter ground relay. The battery, after driving the coach home(2 miles) was showing about 12.5 volts. Before replacing the relays, I had the battery load tested and it showed good. I just cleaned the battery terminals, not sure that makes much difference.
What would you be looking at next?

2007 Fleetwood Terra fyi.
  • The ignition is controlled by the BCC(battery control center) mine is a square box under the hood on the right side(drivers). inside is the following relays
main connect/disconnect aux connect/disconnect charging relay and ignition relay..
if you google bcc troubleshooting you should find a diagram and troubleshooting.
  • I would make sure your engine battery is fully charged 13.2 v +. 2 miles of driving is not enough time for a full charge. (2 hours) The auto disconnect can be off, only click it on if the engine battery is low.
  • Low voltage and ground connector. 12.5 is around 3/4 charge. Use a good meter for you reading. If you have a smart charger Put it on the battery and disconnect the grd cable say 10 amp for 4 hours and 2 amps till it show it charged. Then see if you have that issue. My 99 acts up when the battery get a little low.

On mine the discounnet has nothing to do with the start battery. There is no standard on how they set up things.
