My new RV has a place for a washer/dryer, which will be added next year. I have read the manufactures opinions of both vented and non-vent combo units, and of course the manufacturer says they both are great for whatever your dirty clothes may need, but we all know the manufacturer is not always correct. So.....Would anyone with experience with these machines tell me..............What is best a vented combo unit or an non-vented combo unit?I have heard the non-vented units require more time to dry your clothing and sometimes take longer to wash your clothing.Help please!G George

The non vented kind take longer to dry and use more water. They actually use water for drying. Get the vented style.

Go with the vented unit ONLY!! WE have the vented unit and the unvented takes forever to dry.

Do not buy a non-vented unit. Most of the complaints you see about these units are from owners of non-vented units which were already installed or they installed not understanding the difference. You do need a hole in the side of the RV for the exhaust but it's the only way you will be happy with your dryer.

I've got to agree. I had the non-vented type and will only go with vented from here on out.

Does ambient humidity (ie dry Arizona versus humid Louisiana) have any impact on efficiency of a non-vented dryer ?

The non vented NEVER completely dries the clothes. They are always slightly moist. Go Vented. Doug

Would you rather fresh "dry" air from your coach or outdoors being blown through your clothes or much of the same damp air blowing through them.

Vented dries way quicker.

Also look up spin dryers. They are really neat.

We have the vented, but I really can not tell you if one dry's faster then the non vented.

We just upgraded from our old Splendide 2000S vented to a new Splendide XC2100 vented...the difference is night and day on the units themselves. Splendide has corrected a few of the annoying traits of the 2000S like door unlock delay...the door now unlocks immediately at the end of the cycle and they have incorporated an 'add a sock' ability...you can open the door anytime during the first 10 minutes of any cycle...very handy if you forget to add that extra sock :)
The dryer also dries quite a bit faster and the wrinkling, while still a problem with big loads, is actually very minimal if you keep your load size down a bit. Definitely go with the vented unit..no question..and Splendide is just about the only mfg out there that makes a vented combo for some reason or other. Good luck.

Deano, the non vented units use cold water to condense the moisture and heat out of the dryer, it is then pumped out through the drain. They tend to be very slow to dry and as the water gets warmer (summer) even slower. Plus the unit I had had an annoying pump noise that repeated and repeated and repeated as it dried.

Well thanks again to all. I am going with the vented model cause I dont want to kick myself or wish I had not listened.

JS, I have a coachman RV, I am sure I already can guess about my sidewalls so I I will close my eyes when the W/D are installed, I dont even want to know about.

How could a non vented even work without displacing the heat to the inside of the coach?

Vented, it is easy to install. Might open your eyes on your sidewall construction though.
