Want to cancel RV sale as wife lost job - how can we?

Yesterday we made a deal with a local RV Dealership for a used RV (2014). We signed their quote which list purchase price, down payment, etc. We were supposed to pick it up on Saturday.
Today my wife went to work and they had layoffs. While they did not include her yet it sounds like within the next month or so she may be out of work.
I know the 3 day rule for cars is bogus and only applies to sales made in your home - not on a lot. We have not signed any bank papers yet or any other kind of contract with the dealer but due to my wife's employment situation we do not want to finish this deal. Is there any way to get out of this in the State of Oregon? The dealer said no - we are stuck - too bad for us.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

  • Carefully read the "Quote" you signed. It doesn't t matter to the dealer if you have bank approval or not, even if it was through their financing or not, unless...your contract says that the sale is dependent of financing. Also, look at the quote itself. Was it written on an agreement to purchase form, or was it just written on regular paper with no heading? Did you give them money?
  • If you have not signed a contract yet, you may walk away at any time. A quote is not an obligation to complete a purchase.
  • Read the "price quote" you signed. It should/may bind you to an agreed price. That is not a purchase contract or bill of sale. Read what you signed. If not a commitment to purchase and only a commitment to the price should you purchase I see where you are not obligated to purchase.
This is my opinion based on not seeing what you signed. Without signing a a purchase contract and finance and title docents my feeling is you just have a confirmed price should you purchase. Always best to call DMV, Bank, or attorney.
I would tell dealer sorry changed my mind, but should I decide to purchase I would contact them first. Did you give them any money?
  • I signed a sales agrement with a dealer in So. Oregon, and gave them a 5000.00, deposit. Went home and the next morning went back and picked up my check. Deal over.
  • I would suggest that you might talk to them again and suggest that if they cancel the agreement and refund your money you would like to give them a big thank you on RV.net and other forums you might be on.

One would think that by treating you fairly, (you do not have possession, it's only paper up to this point), that you would come back again when your situation is more stable, and by letting your family, friends and fellow RV.netters know about your fair treatment their business would certainly grow.

I would start by reading ALL the fine print associated with your signature on this document.
If there is no contract then tell the dealer to pound sand or most any other method of adios.
  • Even if you signed I think you can cancel within 3 days without penalty.
  • I would contact an Attorney and see if you have any options.
It may be money well spent.

If you didn't sign any contract with the dealer, how can they hold you to the sale?
