- Carlos___RanaeExplorerJust thinking out loud. If I had a need for a F-450/4500 diesel, it will mean I am pulling or towing a very heavy load. I will consider a G rated tire.
- WinMinnie02ExplorerJust bought 6 new tires Firestone Transforce. Rides nice.
- pnicholsExplorer IIOf course Michelin LTX M&S2 tires have steel in the tread area ... plus the more agressive tread design for less than smooth surfaces. LTX M&S2 tires have some exotic synthetic sidewall belting with a name I can't pronounce (improved over the older LTX M&S sidewall material).
The steel belting in the XPS tire sidewalls is intended for better abrasion resistance against curbs for commercial trucks on the job. The LTX M&S2 tires have a 70,000 mile tread wear warranty, versus the 60,000 mile old M&S tires tread wear warranty. No one will leave tires on their RV for that many miles. What that warranty really means to an RV'er is that at, say, 40,000 miles when they do replace M&S2 tires on an RV ... they'll most likely have a tread surface and entire tire that was a bit safer and more reliable leading all the way up to that point. - 2hams2alaskaExplorerI have a 2000 28.5 foot Coachmen C on a E450 chassis. We put Michelin XPS Ribs on the unit several years ago. We are now at about 35,000 miles on them without a single issue. Not even a flat. That includes 2 times to Alaska and back at 10,000 miles each trip. The tread looks nearly new even at that mileage. The only down side is that they give a slightly harsher ride due to the all steel construction. But the security and safety of the steel construction is what I wanted for the rough back roads. When it is time to replace them I will likely go down to the Michelin LTX since it will likely not make the Alaska trip again.

All load range E Light Duty Truck tires are rated by the DOT the same.
Everyone likes something different.
The biggest issue is proper inflation.
Weight you RV after you pick your tires and adjust the pressure to the weight.
If the PSI chart is confusing call the tire company's Customer Service line.
Example:
Using Michelin's chart:
225/75/16E
65 PSI Single (Front) equates to the GAWR of the 4600# front axle E450 used through 2007 (chassis year)
and
75PSI works out to GAWR of the 5000# axle used from 2008 up.
Note Michelin chart has:
Single
60 PSI for single = 2190 lbs
65 PSI for single = 2335 lbs – max 4600 lb. Axle for our year E450
Duel = axle lbs
70 PSI for Duels = 4440 lbs
75 PSI for Duels = 4660 lbs
80 PSI for Duels = 4940 lbs - gboppExplorerHankook makes a good tire.

Help people out a little. You might get recommendations that aren't suitable for your situation.
What size of tire?
Are you looking for a soft ride?
Are you looking for a quiet ride?
Do you want an all-season tire?
Do you live / drive in heavy snow areas?
Do you want the heaviest load rating possible, or does it matter?
Do you ever boondock with it and might need more traction?
Bill - j-dExplorer IIEvery LT225/75R16E tire has the same load ratings. That said, the best tires in this size will ride/handle/last a little longer than the good ones.
If your coach is heavy, if you use it a lot, if you drive in hot summer temperatures, I'd suggest the best ones.
IMO, two stand out as Best:
Michelin XPS Rib and Bridgestone Duravis R250 both of which are highway tread.
Again IMO, Good ones are:
Michelin LTX which is the OEM tire on E450 and it's M&S tread along with a few others like Firestone Transforce and BFGoodrich Commercial T/A. Lower volume tires I hear good things about are Hankook and Kuhmo,
RV's are heavy, driven long highway miles. I can't recommend the $100 or so cheapies that are also available. Too much at stake. The danger aside, a blowout can cause thousands in damage to an RV. - donn0128Explorer II
