I stay left as much as possible and try to make passing easy. You guys keep the cops busy, I'll wave and honk as I go by.
I hope you mean you stay right... - rgatijnet1Explorer IIII usually drive at the speed limit up to 75 MPH which is the max speed rating on my tires. If weather conditions or road conditions are not good, I drive slower.
My Workhorse gasser with the 8.1L engine can easily handle the speed limit and fuel mileage is not something I worry about.
I have been retired for 20+ years and I enjoy spending my time at a destination rather than on a boring highway. If possible I use a lot of the back roads, and again, I travel at the speed limit if conditions permit. - SoloExplorer

Was just curious, what is the Average Highway,/freeway speed Most of you drive, and if that is from a gas or diesel coach?
A lot of variables here (road conditions, towing or not, weather) but, in our previous gas motorhomes, 62-67 was a comfortable handling speed. Much over that and I did not feel comfortable in being able to operate the rigs safely. Currently, our DP with tag is a completely different situation. Speed limit is the comfortable speed at most times and also staying with the majority of the big rigs keeps me from becoming a nuisance to others. - gafidlerExplorer56 mph

- Cloud_DancerExplorer IIDutch Star 40 ft with Spartan/Cummins 1050 lb/ft torque pulling 4x4 GMC Envoy I set the cruise control on 67 mph. In event of front tire blowout, I do NOT step on the throttle pedal, NOR the brake. I leave it on cruise control and STEER it with the steering wheel until I decide to slow down. I don't normally drive at night. I do not know the average.
- STBRetiredExplorerGas. 65 -70 if towing the Edge, 70- 75 if not towing the Edge. That's in 70 MPH or higher zones. 65 - 70 in 65 MPH zones whether towing or not.
- dogunterExplorerWe're new to RV'ing and purchased a 30' 2007 model R-Vision trailer. It has been wonderful so far but we are also concerned about speed issues.
At about 60 mph the trailer will sway considerably, despite our anti-sway hitch setup. I looked at the tires and they are only rated to 62 mph (ST205/75D-14, tandem axles).
Since our highways here in New Mexico are 75 mph maximum speed limit, would it make sense to upgrade to a tire rated for a faster speed?
Is this even possible? I haven't found anything that also doesn't increase tire radius (which may not be possible for our trailer).
Thanks.
