When To Replace Shocks – Freightliner XC

Should I replace my shocks because they are ~15 years old? They show no signs of wear/leak. I haven’t noticed any deterioration in the ride. But I don’t drive it daily, don’t know if the ride should be improved (rig has 50k miles).

Most of the posts I read about owners being surprised at ride improvement after new shocks, are for Ford or Workhorse chassis. My guess is that shock behavior is more critical on a leaf spring suspension than on the air bag suspension that I have. Correct?
  • I have an XC 2005 and would like to replace the fronts with new shocks.
I think mine wallows too much.
  • It is more like this, shocks are working almost every minute of every hour. Unless ya have it with all the weight completely off of the wheels and tires.
    They are worn out

Especially if they are the original and Oem shocks.
    Get the best. Roadmasters
  • Go over a regular parking lot speed bump at normal low speed.

If an axle bounces more than 1.5 times, replace them.

Also replace them if there is wear/looseness in the bushing or oil leak (not just damp, but leaking).
